Is there any?

I picked up my new GS yesterday and to me there is a lot of slack before the back brake bites - it's more or less the same as the demo bike I tried so I'm reasonable happy I've not got a problem.

It seems that the back brake lever travels at least 30 to 40 degrees before it bites and my foot is near 70 degrees to get any real stopping out of it. Is there any adjustment that can be made so that the brake "bites" sooner? There doesn't seem to be anything inthe Riders Manual.

Thanks

There is a little shaft which extends from the back of the brake lever up into the brake master cylinder. It is held on with a little clippy thing which is a pin with a keeper that pins the bottom of the shaft to the ear on the badk side of the pedal. (I am describing it by memory, so I have probably got it partly wrong.)
If you remove the pin (by sliding the keeper off the shaft and then pulling the pin out and losing it in the gravel driveway) you can remove the little shaft.
You will notice a little lock-nut which you can loosen. If you extend the litle shaft a little bit, it will reduce the freeplay of the brake pedal. Make a very small adjustment and replace the whole thing carefully on the bike and ride it a bit before adjusting it further.. a little goes a long way.

Mind you , I have just described the adjustment to a 2006 model, they might have changed everything since then and I wouldn't know.

Hi there, I found the same with my 12GSA when I bought it, but that was, or at least seemed different from the demo bike I tried.

That said I was riding mine with different boots to the ones I'd used riding the demo bike - new boots, new bike everything felt different.

I tried the adjustment suggested below, but from what I could tell all this does is adjust the travel at the rear of the brake pedel, it doesnt raise the front part of the pedel so you still seemingly have to move your foot a lot further. Becareful adjusting the bar at the back, it does adjust the play, but I dont think its supposed to be used as an adjustment for the pedel.

The long at the short of it though is that after a few hours of playing and over a year and 12k miles I hardly ever use the rear brake now at the 12gs and gsa have linked brakes... so there is hardly any need.

best of luck playing though.
