Picked up my 08 1200GSA from Pidcocks on Saturday and handed over my old 06 GSA with just under 13,000 miles on the clock.

Initial thoughts after 3 days of ownership and 380 miles:

New brakes - at least as powerful as the servo brakes but more feel - definetely an improvement.
Gearbox an improvement on the old one but not a massive difference - may improve further with more miles.
Low first gear went for the low first gear which means that you can trundle along at low speed without slipping the clutch. Gap between 1st and 2nd is not a problem.
Seat Just as bad as the 06 model - fitted my slightly taller seat which I had modified by motorcycleseatworks for the 06 bike.
Fuel guage a lot more accurate than the 06 model i.e. does not go down in big jumps.
Rear shock - non ESA - OK but no better than the 06 bike i.e. still lacking quality damping. Fitted my nearly new Wilbers off the 06 GSA Sunday morning :thumb2.
Traction Control - not had it kick in yet but I like the fact that you can switch it off/switch to sports mode whilst riding.

So far fitted the Remus headers, Wilbers rear shock, Ali lugguage, carbon fiber hugger, Zumo, machine art head guards and head light guard off my 06 bike with no problems.

Will fit front Wilbers and oil cooler guard in the next couple of weeks along with the TT bash plate (front fixings have changed on the 08 bike but looks like it should still go on ok.

So far well pleased - the bike feels a little more responsive due to the gearing and certainly has not lost any torque. Not a massive change but certainly an improvement especaily the new brakes :thumb

Are you saying that if I were looking at getting a GS Adventure, that it may be worth looking at a second hand model as there is not much difference?

Depending on the price/condition etc then the answer would be yes -especaily if it was one of the later non-servo models.

Paul,

What mounting did you use on the Zumo ? (and before the smart comments not missionary or doggy)

Just the standard ram mounts that the Zumo came with taking it off the bottom bar around the instruments. Works for me :thumb

Couple more photos - the machineart head guards in black (IMHO) look a lot better than the ali ones and will hopefully prove a little more robust :augie

Bike also came with Continental Trial Attacks which I must say are rather good compared to the Tourances I was using :D

are those the factory fit optional bigger handguards too?

Bike came with the standard smaller Grey ones - bought the larger black ones from Pidcocks for £26. Only takes a minute to change - just 1 screw.

Will put the grey ones back on come summer.

Good to hear that.

I'll stick with my non-servo late 06 (07 model) GSA then.

When you say the seat is still as bad, what do you mean, exactly ?

There's nothing wrong with mine.

I've done quite a few 500 mile days.

I also did 281 miles non stop which was a whole tankful without getting off the bike at all and that was fine too,so there certainly isn't a comfort issue (for me,anyway)

Some find the seats on GSA's great some like me do not. The profile in my opinion is wrong sloping down torwards the front and the foam is too soft. Had a spare GSA seat reprofiled and with foam specified for my wieght by motorcycleseat works. Found it much better than standard - even did Lowestoft to Dingle Bay in one day last year with no problems

If it's not a rude question what do you weigh ?

I'm 14 and a bit stone and I find the GSA seat pretty good

Thanks for the info, particularly regarding the tyres as my Tourances will be needing a change in the next couple of thousand miles.:bounce1

Is the spotlight switch now incorporated into the L/H switch gear on top?

No handlebar brace either?

Yep - spot light switch on the left handlebar cluster - much better position. No cross brace for handlebar - should make fitting tank bags easier :D

Which means you can't use the Wunderlich crossbrace bag which is one of the most useful goodies I have, no probs with the GSA tankbag. Easy enough to fit a crossbrace though when I buy the 1250GSA next year :D

Apart from fitting a cross brace bag - a cross brace serves no real purpose other than styling
Pucka off road bikes have not had cross braces for years.

Got a pic of this cross brace bag ?

is it big enough for sunglasses, phone etc ?

I don't like tank bags but would like a small place to stash handy stuff rather than behind me in the ally panniers.

Sunglasses, camera, tictacs, pen, allen key for Zumo and credit card for the peage. Has to be the Wunderlich one,TT, HG and others make them but they don't have stiffeners in the sides so just flop about.
