LAMPF

Fit a new bulb that's not blown.....it's always worked for me! :augie. :D

has appeared on the display - dipped headlight bulb gone.

What's the best replacement advice?

Had the same problem the other week. Fitted Osram Night Racer. Amazon, £16.00 + £1.20 P&P. That was for a pair and they are supposed to retail for about £30! Nearly bought Osram Night Breaker, which is specific for cars. I know their both H7 bulbs and will fit, but the Night Racer is bike specific and are meant to be more vibration resistant. Great white light and very happy so far.:bounce1

BE CAREFUL

Hi,

Be extremely careful when putting the new bulb in, sometimes it can be a tight fit. The headlight reflector is held within the headlight unit by three or four clips. On two occasions I have managed to push the reflector off the clips when inserting the new bulb. It's an absolute bugger of a job to get it back on. A number of other people have also done this, there are a number of threads on this subject with various fixes. Best bet is not to let this happen.

My dipped beam bulb went today as well, gonna go with the Phillips X-treme one myself as I'm sure it won some test recently for giving out the most light.

You're right, the test was in RiDE magazine some while back and the Philips X-treme did indeed come first. The Osrams were somewhere close behind. The only reason I went for the Osram is that they are bike specific in that they withstand more vibration and we all know a boxer twin is not as smooth as a four cylinder car. My 2004 GS went through quite a few headlight bulbs so I'm hoping the new one lasts, we'll see.:augie

Its far less fiddlier just to remove the lamp itself and change the bulb, only 2 bolts.:thumb2

BEFORE you replace the bulb........... start bike (in neutral obviously) and knock/bump/thump the headlight on the front.

My mates bike also showed LAMPF and he was on his way to buy a new bulb. Turns out the connection was loose........... and the bump/smack sorted it and the LAMPF disappeared and his light now works.

maybe just loose connection!

Mine went yesterday!

..and this is becoming all too common - here is what has happened to me 3 times now...

- Had 2 GSA's and this has happened on both, including my current 09' yesterday...

I wash the bike and then a LAMPF! Water ingress? I dont ever power wash, I "spray" the bike with water from a standard hose pipe.

..Another time, I was touring Scotland in early 09' on an 07' GSA and going through a very wet and windy Glencoe, and.... LAMPF. Its as though water is getting and f*cking things up and its done this on two different models for me now?

It's a GS, not designed for riding on anything other than sunny Sundays in Surrey.

My GS has blown more bulbs than any other bike I have owned by some margin. It's either the telelever giving the headlamp a hard time else it's an electrical issue

Mine also blew last week, I'd bought a twin pack from Aldi so had two in stock.
Popped one in and its just as good as the original that came out IE shyte :D

Best regards Stretch :)

Much more likely to be the heavy vibration of the boxer engine. If the screen moves as much as it does at idle then imagine what its doing to a fairly delicate lamp coil.

Headlight bulb blew last Saturday, the replacement lasted until Thursday. the one which replaced that actually exploded to smitherines on Friday. I'm not a happy bunny:mad:
It's going in for it's first year/6,000 service tomorrow so I will bring it to their attention, see if they can shed any light on the cause of the problem (Did ya see what I did there? Shed any light. Boom! Boom!)

Extremely funny. One of your brightest moments? :augie

I don't like the explosion part of it either.

If you can't get hold of a replacement immediately (I don't like riding without dip beam due to SMIDSY's), swap it for your high beam buld as they're both H7's :thumb2
