► Lights, indicators, electrics and alarm

I had hyper-lite LEDs mounted within the tail-light lens of my old K75S and they worked great. Has anyone considered similar for the F800GS? Their website at http://www.hyperlites.com/ shows CAN-BUS-compatible wiring. I wonder how I would install too - clamp them to the turn signals? :thumb

Here in traffic-jammed Southern California I want to make sure braking is highly visible. Any other recommendations? Thanks.

I can confirm their view of can bus wiring - I posted this in an earlier thread:-

The rear light connector is accessible under the tail cover and the wiring is as follows;

grey/white - positive
brown - negative

The good news is the positive connection doubles as a tail/stoplight with 4v normal and 12v under braking.

The high level led's on my givi box are now an additional tail and brake light

Have tested the tail and brake lights for a couple of hours to ensure no overload and all seems fine.

The difference between 2.8v and 4v is probably just differences in multi-meter accuracy (or my eyes aren't so good :augie)

Thanks BM! So... you installed the lites on your Givi topbox? Sounds like a good plan - nice and in the line of sight. Cheers...

Not hyper-lites - just the high-level LEDS that come as an option on Kappa & Givi boxes.

Got a Wassal kit on my f650, just ordered a new 800gs, how do his kits get on with the canbus thingy, any problems fitting them regarding that?

Power (cigartte) mod

Just wonder what is the best way to get power. Do you get a plug in with cable, or do you change over the plug inside the body work?

any comments/experiences?

The reason that 4x4's and bikes and tractors etc come with the din fitting is that they tend to be more secure ,,,the plug doesn't ping out of the socket so much when bumping along.

IIWY I'd look at it the other way around...fit additional din socket ( a few quid from stockists) and convert your ciggy socket plus on devices to DIN plugs.

As above though, there are adaptors...I run a din plug to two ciggy socket adaptor on my bike that works well that cost me about £9.99 from a total petrol station.

If you take off the black key surround you'll find there's a detent already marked out underneath for drilling through for a second socket. There's a photo somewhere (on the Touratech site) of the standard DIN plus a ciggy socket.

Light Mounts

Hello across the pond. This weekend I picked my yellow F800GS and found it better than I expected. Once home after a 175 mile ride, I added SW Mototech crash bars which I had ordered before the bike came. I also purchased the new PIAA Cross Country lights. The bars have a hole which one could mount the lights in. However, they stick out and would be the first to go if one dropped. Sooo, anyone out there have knowledge of brackets that might fight the cross bar for mounting the lights or any other suggestion.

The bike feels much lighter than my 1200GS and easier to push around in the garage. Heading out later this week for a few days on the road.

Aux lights - Touratech HID/fog combo?

Anybody install the Touratech HID and/or fog lights on their 800? I haven't given enough money to Touratech, um, this evening so I'm really tempted by their solution ... but I'd like too know whether it's a good augmentation of the stock 800 lights, or just a waste of money.

Thoughts?

Maybe it's because I like symmetry, but the idea of having one fog (which can be on all the time) and one HID (which presumably only comes on with main beam) doesn't look right.

For better road illumination I think the ideal setup on the F650/800GS would be to change the dip and main beam to 50w HIDs, see http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=158026. Then for better 'road presence' add a couple of auxilliary lights that can be on all the time.

which aux lights do you recommend Tim? and how have you mounted yours?

A friend of mine has installed the TT kit on his F800GS along with their crashbars/extended/, toolbox/with BMW bashplate/, blinkers, saddle and a lot of other bits. I loved the look and he is happy with the set-up. I used Motolight caliper mount Hologens - replaced already twice each side in two seasons.
Should I deside to go on with 800GS - I will order TT HID/halo kit.

Pics ?

Guys,
I'm thinking about ordering a kit from Les, but wanted to know if anyone had them fitted and could they post pics ?
Also, do the auxiliary lights fit onto a bracket or mount onto the fairing ?

I just fitted a pair of lights with both H3 and LED. I connected the LED's to lthe low beam and the H3 via a relay to the high beam. I like both to be seen and get some more light myself now when it is starting to get dark up north here in Sweden.

Since i found a really easy way to mount the lights (at least that's what i think :)) i thought i might as well upload some pictures. So here they are: http://www.lmw.se/800gs/

Hi Lars
Nice idea, and easy install, what lamps did you use? Does the handlebar get in touch with the lights when you pull it all the way to the sides?
