► Tyre choices and emergency repairs

What he said. I replaced the front Battlewing at 6k for an Anakee (1) and the rear for an Anakee 2 at 8.5k.

Steve

What you both said;

+ I was thinking of going Anakee2 but as they are still waiting on developing the front-tyre i will probably go Anakee2's next round of tyre's.

Very smart looking tyre;s Jon, drop a piccy on here sometime bud.

After a stationary off on wet grass/sand here in the garden which caused me an ankle distortion, torn ligaments and almost 3 months with no bike, I have decided to change the BW (4500 Kms) for the Anakee 2 that I had previously on my 1996 F650.

Anakee's are second to none compare to the BW outside tarmac :thumb2

Here some pic's

The BW set are waiting for a good home

I had the anakee's put on my 800 last month and so far found that they are great on tarmac and gravel roads. I will test them off road in summer and report back. Must say however that the pair of battlewings did just over 10500 miles on mine before i changed. They do dance a bit in the rain. OK for dirt/gravel roads but not so for the off road sector.

Hi guys,

Has anyone fitted a 130/80 17 tire to the F800GS? I am looking for an alternative to TKC80s and have in mind either the Mitas E-09 Dakar (140/80 17) or the Mitas C02 (130/80 17). I would prefer the Mitas C02 but I am not sure if it would fit the rim with no problems.

Thanks a lot!

Cheers!

Chris G,

Did you get the new boots fitted yet?

How much did they sting you and where did you get them, if you don't mind sharing? :)

Need to replace DeathWings soon - although I have well over 6000 miles on them and I have to say they have been pretty impressive so far!!

(Although I ride like a tranquilised granny with a bad hip and vertigo - just ask SiJohnston....)

mb

not fitted yet, but
£36 for the front
£51 for the rear
£8 delivery

tyre change

is changing tyres something i can do myself or do the wheels always have to be balanced after putting on new tyres?

I've heard people saying they don't usually bother balancing the wheel, sometimes suggesting 'they barely notice it anyway'. I've never ridden an unbalanced wheel, however in my mind I would want to do the job properly.

Fitting a tyre shouldn't be too difficult so long as you have the correct tools, what you might want to do is compromise on what you do at home, for example you could fit the tyre, but get it balance at your local bike shop.

Well, it all depends of you're mechanical capacity, the tools you own...and the time you are willing to give it.
And yes they must surely be balanced afterwards.

Sound advice...ignore at your peril:thumb

Anyone looking for Heidenaus ..?

Have a look on Ebay for this seller: imighthavewhaturlooking4

Or call Andrew: 01302 338600, tell him that Greg from the UKGSers board recommended him and he might give you a bit of discount. I ordered my pair at 16:30 on Monday afternoon, they were on my doorstep by 10:00 Tuesday morning.

He's even got 150/70 in stock.

Stunning service, nice bloke...

Wheel balancer cost about £60 to buy from ebay and 10 min to learn how to do it from a youtube video, its not rocket science!

Steve

Might give him a bell soon, the Karroos I put on didn't do too well in the mileage stakes:(

Greg,

have you tried these tyres yet and how did you find them? Sorry for the questions but im thinking of putting tck's on, but the Heidenaus keep being recommended and might be in the running against the Conti's.

Thanks in advance:thumb2

I agree,...all depends on how much you value your time. Personally I change tyres once every two years hence I preffer a pro to do it. :)

i have run several sets of TKC's and now heidi's. Heidi's have done 2500 miles and don't look like they've worn at all, and generally I was getting 3000 miles from the TKC's (in the summer months especially), so deciding that I didn't want to divert as much money at bike rubber, I switched. There's little to separate them in performance, but as the wear indicates, the heidi's are a harder compound and maybe not quite as sticky as the softer TKC's. I think i'll stick with the heidi's now. hope this helps.
