TCK 80 tyres

Can anybody point me in the right direction for the TCK 80 tyre size/spec for my 800?

Currently have the Battlwings on but am thinking of a little offroad.

cheers

Hi, welcome to the site. Continental tyres fitments can be found here Conti-Tyres F800GS .

The sizes are the same as you should already have i.e. 90/90-21 on the front, 150/70-17 on the rear. The front is S rated, the rear Q; load rating is 54/69 Front/Rear. THey don't do a tubed type 150/17, but there is no problem fitting a TL tyre to the TT rim, with a tube of course - apart from it being a tight bugger.

TKC 80s are universally loved by everyone who has tried them it seems...but mileage is pretty poor, they wear very fast.

Top contender is the Heidenau K60, also available in stock sizes.

For long distance adventurin', the Mefo Explorer lasts a long time, they have a new Super Explorer that fits the rear exactly now.

A lot of fans for the Mitas E09 Dakar (not the regular version) but I think you have to drop down to 140/80-17 on the rear.

THe Dunlop T606 has its fans also.

If I was looking for knobbly I would go for the K60 I think, but want to try the Mefos also.

As it is, I am about to put on some Conti Trail Attacks, I need something a bit more road orientated to keep up with my mate on his new 990R :$

Hi,

I'm looking into tyres for my F800GS for a long trip (through Africa) and the Mefo tyres interest me but, when I look at the Mefo website it doesn't mention a 150/70 R17 - do you have a link with info about the Super Explorer in the appropriate size?

Thanks

Adrian

You're dead right...lots of 'promises' from Mefo, maybe it was wishful thinking. Some people running 130/80-17 on the F800GS, or maybe I saw the 150/70-18 :nenau

Guess the Heidi's are the longest wearing in the correct size at the moment.

Thanks for that - I thought I was going mad for a minute (well madder than I already am anyway :D ) - great info though!

TKC's have been the reliable standard for adventure motorcycling by lots of global travelers for many many years. You can get many miles out of them if you maintain them properly and ride with the proper pressure on the proper terrain.
Most say they get low mileage, but most don't ride to make them last. A friend of mine rode from Norway to Capetown on a single TKC (rear). That's 20,000 miles! (Okay, yes this was an exceptional experience and yes the tire was as bald as a baby's bottom when he changed it, but i digress)
Personally I get about 8000 miles out of a rear, and I'm at about 15,000 on my front.

K60's are very nice tires but right now they have stopped production on the 150/70-17 due to changes in environmental laws. (something to do with the formula)

Bummer! Was just trying to save a bit of money there - looks like I'll have to go for some TKC's then :(

Ahh well such is life :)

Thanks for the info

K-60s not in stock at myNetMOTO.com, no restock expected until end of March!

Every Accesory has still got them in both 1200GS and F800GS sizes, with the current GBP-EUR exchange rates £66.95 Front and £76.95 Rear is not a bad price.

:blast:blast:blast

Click the fekkin link and talk to Andrew - I was gassing with him at 4pm on Monday and the tyres were delivered at 09:30 on Tuesday - about £130.00 all in, but in fairness he 'forgot' to add the delivery charge...

Straight from the Mefo Horses mouth:

"Hallo Twisticles,
The tyre 150/70-17 is in the planning. Unfortunately, I do not have any appointment for the completion production
Best regards

I know it's probably been asked and answered a million times but....

What are the tyre sizes for the F650GS (twin), and will the K60's suit the tubeless alloy wheels OK?

Many thanks Eythor - might get the credit card out!

Now we need to organise a "DIY tyre fitting and maintenance" day in NI. I can provide a garage and endless cups of tea, just need to fly Greg in....

mb

*EDIT* - DAMMIT they only have 150/70B-17 for the rear. Foiled again :(

I actually wouldn't be too shy from mounting 150s at the rear..... if fits the 800 it sure fits the 650 twin, I have done 8000+ km on 140/80-17 K60 rear on my F650 Classic Funduro instead of 130/80-17 and I just love them, slight peg scraping in the roundabouts and twisties, not to mention how they behave in the rough stuff where they really belong......:P

I've got a 150/70B-17 TKC80 on the rear of my F650 twin. Works fine and the already optimistic speedometer now reads almost exactly 10% high. This makes it easy to do the mental arithmetic to estimate actual speed.
