What year is your GS? Do you have the Bowden cabel split-box or the cross-over cable from left to right throttle house?

After fiddling with the sync it is possible that the cross over cable is adjusted to a point where the throttle will hang from the cable instead og resting on the throttle stop at idle. This could cause som idling problems.

Have you cleaned the brass screws and air canals? They can get filled with soot and crud, also causing dodgy idling.

Does your 1100 have a lambda sensor or CO pot ? - If the CO pot Have you adjusted the CO levels, to do the job properly this has to correct before you can adjust the idle correctly and it reduces surging, as can TPS adjustment.

lads thanks for the replies, the bike does,nt have a co2 adjuster pot(but i,m thinking about fitting one-is this poss?)the bike does pull cleanly but like i say its just a handfull in slow traffic but i,m thinking maybe its my riding 4th gear 30mph 2000rpm maybe i,m in too higher gear?ive taken brass screws out and they are covered in black s--t so ill clean and see how it goes.cheers lads:thumb

I'm generally in third at 30mph on my 1100.
That said, I don't get any surging (famous last words probably  ) and it pulls cleanly from tickover - it just seems to pick up much more smartly from 3000rpm upwards. 3rd seems to be the 'all purpose gear' (probably why they wear first on the old boxes).

Problem may have something to do with the bike being an import. originally with a CAT... the wire to the cat is clearly visible in a pic posted when he bought the bike. He swapped exhausts but I'm unsure if the new exhaust had a CAT fitted. If thats the case then the motronic may be running in 'confused mode' - attempting to retro fit a CO pot 'may' be a good idea.

Ohhh, one of those bikes - lots of parts changed from standard and generally fecked about with and then all the questions on why it's not running right :augie :D

lads i,ve just cleaned the gummed up brass screws, fitted new air filter, but also removed the ccp and all seems well, seems to rev easier from idle so i,ll take out for a blast and get to you later.cheers

You seem to have no co pot and no lambda sensor.

How do you expect it to run right like that?

Not sure if that's the only problem though :augie

r1100gs

lads bikes running 100% better.infact i can,t believe the differance removing the ccp has made,no stumbles pulls like a train and has even stopped the backfire i,ve been getting when easing off the throttle, only question is will removing the ccp damage anything?hope not cause im bloody loving it:thumb

Sorry to be a pain, but would someone care to enlighten me as to a ccp please?

As far as I am concerned it is three quarters of the USSR.

its a little doo-dah that sits in the fuse box and codes the motronic for various combinations of exhausts etc. also different countries have different coloured CCps. the most common one used in the UK is I believe a beige colour. seems to be more applicable to the 1150 and easier to tweak on that bike than the 1100. CCP = Cat Code Plug.

ccp

the ccp(cat code plug)is found in the fuse box,its a square pink or beige fuse type block which has far has i know controls your fueling.i believe that by removing richens up the mixture.now someones gonna come along shortly and tell me i,m talking a load of bol----s but thats how i understand it.anyway a senior member who don,t know what ccp is:confused:whats going on.:D
