1150GS Clutch Failure

Very very doubtful. Shafts snap, but very very rarely lose thier splines. I've never seen one on an 1100/1150.

Take the starter motor off, turn the rear wheel by hand while the bike is in gear, you can just see the gearbox input shaft, does it turn as you turn the wheel ?.
You can't see the section of shaft where the splines will have worn, that'll be to easy.

A few tips for you - No need to remove any pivot bearings the gearbox/swingarm/bevel all come out as one unit.

That lot will be quite heavy I suspect
Is it realistically a one man job in that case?

The advice I would give is to avoid main dealers and do a search for independents on here.

Unless of course you are handy with tools.

Trolley jack on a smooth floor, secure a sturdy skid of wood to the top of it, should be easy.

Beware of not bending the pushrod in the middle though.

Dont forget to put a couple of Home made longer studs in to crank case in place of the bolts you removed then you can withdraw the rear end without the gearbox dropping and bending the push rod. You shopuld have bropugh a Vincent twin, nice simple clutches!. (those in the know will cringe!). BMW make a service tool i.e. longer studs but home brew is cheaper, dont know the size off hand but screwfix will sort you out for pennies. dave gs.

On an 1150 you put the clutch pushrod in through the rear of the gearbox after it's all in place.

Removed starter motor and looked in at the clutch.
No obvious debris in there?
Jacked back wheel off the ground.
Turned rear wheel, shaft didn't turn.
Engage 1st gear.
Turn back wheel again and the shaft turns too.
Sound like a rail gun is heard.
Bugger! sounds like the splines.
It will be a gearbox rebuild then!
Asks girlfriend to hide wallet.

That's good then. I try not to drop the bloody lot.
I can't wait to see if the splines are shot or if most of the damage is to the clutch plate.
