1150gs Correct engine oil

Unipart 10-40 semi synthetic has done fine in my bike for the last 40,000 miles. I just go to the garage down the road, use their drip tray, dispose of old oil in their bulk tank and pump th eoil from their 40 gallon drum - costs me a tenner to oil and filter. I give them a fiver for a drink and they are happy, I am very happy and it means I can drop the oil every 5000 miles.

Get 1150 spluttering after a mile r so .

My 99 1150 gs starts perfect but after a mile r so when I give it throttle it splutters and misses perfect one and minute and then goes like that ,changed spark plugs changed you hose and fuel in the tank , does anyone have any idea where I should look next .tanx all

I think you shpuld try starting a new thread as yours is not oil-related. And you'll end up with replies too. ;-)

I put good quality oil in my bikes (GS, Ducati Multistrada), and change it at half the recommended intervals, then the oil out the bikes is used for oil changes on my wife's car. The old oil out the car is used to paint my fences now you can't buy real creosote anymore (works a treat). The bikes get good fresh oil at regular intervals, the car gets higher spec oil more frequently than intended, and my fences don't rot!

Mole valley farmers do a really good Massey Ferguson oil however from the the same establishment I use the 10/40 semi and change it every 4000 miles on a recent trip of 2000 miles around Spain and Portugal I used 500 ml

Dude, you're goin to get some sh1t for asking that, but don't let it get to you. As for the oil,yes a good 20/50 minneral car oil that is at the correct API if you ask me, I use castrol or rock oil. No need for Motorcycle oil as you have a dry clutch. Don't worry about the flack that will follow, you're meant to read the unwriten rules before posting. :comfort

cheers
Ian
Just put 20w50 fully synthetic in mine......why not, as it keeps the viscosity better?

Put in the most expensive and poshest oil you can find - otherwise just do what the handbook says

Castrol do a 20/50 for motorcycles, GP I think its called. Have a look in your manual and youll see that differeent weight oils are reccomended for different ambient temperatures. When its hot like now in England or in a hot country use heavier weight oil like 20/50. If you were using your bike in lapland then go for a lighter weight like 10/40 or so. Having said that you will notice that the reccomendations in the manual have such a big crossover spec that its not so important. Quite a few people, myself included like a heavier oil like 20/50 cos it seems to make the engine a little quiter. I would find one oil of decent reputation and try and stick to it. Best of luck old bean ...... :drool
Mine is millers oils 20w50 fully synthetic for bikes and its really quietened the motor down.
