Hi all,

I'm really going through the mill at the moment!

Replaced my headlamp dip beam bulb earlier and now my indicators, hazards, horn, dip beam, main beam, and front side light don't bloody work.

Rear lights and brake lights work fine.

I can hear the horn relay click when I press the button but the horn does not work.

Starter relay also clicks but no starter motor fitted at the moment (but that's another problem in my other post!)

Checked all fuses, all seem ok when using an ohmmeter.

Anyone experienced this before, it must be something common to all but I'm out of ideas?

Cheers

When was the last time the battery was charged? Has it been on an Optimate for the "months" the bike hasn't been used?

The fact that you can hear the horn relay clicking suggests to me battery or bad earth but I'm no expert :nenau

Try flexing the wiring loom from the ignition switch to see if that gets anything to work.

Swop out the load relief relay to see if that changes anything.

Second thoughts, the fact you don't have your starter installed is the reason for your problem.

The small black wire on the starter earths the load relief relay when the ignition is on. without the starter connected the load relief relay will not pull in and you won't get the lights, horn and indicators.

I hope this is right as it would be a great fix and lines with the theory that coincidences rarely happen on faults.

Ian, you are a life saver, I was totally baffled by an electrical problem on my GS and your comment about the Load relief relay earth wire prompted me to find it had indeed come off the starter motor, brilliant, I'd never have thought of that. I see your probably not far from me, I'm in Wootton Bassett, if ever you need a hand - give me a shout. I can do clutches and spanner and hammer work but electrics are a mystery to me. Regards Ian P.

Hi peps

That will be Royal Wootton Bassett. The towns folk have earned the title.:bow

Glad I could help, and thanks for the praise. Likewise, if you ever have a problem with the electrics which you can't solve yourself, drop me a PM. I would be happy to come over and help.
