Has anyone had recent experience regarding bmw warranty
My rear wheel is really bad and the front is also out of spec, especially under acelleration at 70,from a bmw dealer not my local one
I bought the bike with 700 miles on 10 months old,
it is enduro spec and had metzeler karoos fitted, it was a rough ride on them an really vibrated 70 plus,
when i got home i fitted tourances but didnt have time to ride it as i was going overland to spain 2 days later and busy at work,
so we set off from zeebrugge non motorway through france and discovered my mates bike started cutting out if going over 70!! mainly when the fuel was below half, so i never got to try the bike over 70 until we got nearer to spain but it was smoother as expected,
so in 6th at 75 ish the vibration shook through the bike mainly accelerating so bad it was uncomfortable,
i checked round and found the rear wheel wobbling up and down and sideways , and as we continued a slight wiggle leant over at slow speed
not wanting to bin the holiday and wait several days for a spanish dealer to look at it, we stayed below 70 and managed ok,
back home i informed the supplying dealer who got a little defensive, and advised them i would prefer to use my local one half a mile away,
it took 5 weeks for them to fit me in as they were busy and had staff illness
i took it in on thursday and went in saturday for a verdict,
they have submitted a warranty claim, but its not straight forward over 700miles apparently, this is a limit on spoked wheels from new ??
they have allways been pro customer at laceby and said it may be wednesday before a decision is made by bmw,
I have contacted bmw direct to make my dissapointment clear, and requested they explain this unwritten clause,,
I only ride on tarmac and my previous spoked wheels were fine for 6 years

I feel for ya, pal. I have had no probs with my self same wheels. But what i can say is that laceby does seem very pro customer (I`m from scunny but bought my GSA from London Park lane) so I would hope for a favourable resolution!

I bought my used 12GSA from my local dealer, then discovered head shake at speed (above legal speeds on track IYKWIM ;) ) caused by the front wheel being out of round and out of true. Lucky for me they fitted a replacement front wheel which cured it, although they did initially forget to reprogram the tyre pressure sensors, requiring a secong visit to sort that problem.

After a lot of calls to bmw customer services they finally agreed to change both wheels,
they have changed their acceptable tolerance from 1.5 mm to 1,7 mm vertical and lateral run out!!!
both wheels were outside this measurement but it took a lot of negotiating for them to change the wheels,
they were sticking to this 700 mile limit on new vehicle warranty claims , luckily laceby bmw stuck with me on this and got a result,

Had mine replaced on last GSA for corrossion, no mention of milege limitation, couple of pickies and a swap, easy peesy!

buckled

i had the same problem ive cured it now though . i sold the bike . it was explained to me all about bmw wheels from hagons when i took them in there . in a word the wheels are rubbish . i loved the bike but the wheels are no good . do a search you will find theres loads like it mate . do what i done and just live with it

What a load of bollox. Just because a couple are out of balance doesn't mean thay are rubbish and there is nothing wrong with the spoked wheels.

I had new spokes fitted to mine a few weeks ago and the lad that did it reckoned they were good wheels and easy to set up properly. I only put new spokes in because I had them powder coated after 5 years of neglet and abuse:augie.

i did reply to this but decided to delete it lol . i cant be bothered with the blinkered people on here lol

I wasnt implying the wheels are rubbish as my last set were perfect ,
it just seems the manufacturers may be getting more claims due to the rubbish roads with holes everywhere, and are now trying to limit the cost ,
oddly if you neglect them and corrosion sets in they change them no quibble,
i may be mistaken but the honda crosstourer wheels look almost identical to the bmw cross spoked ones????
the bike is transformed now so it was worth the battle,,,,roamer

Well, instead of using the idiotic broad brush approach of all the wheels are crap because you have a problem, open your eyes a little:rolleyes:

If the forum upsets you so much then why stick around? You obviously cant stand GS/A so I don't see the point of you being here. Course you could just be here to noise people up and start argument ;)

OK, you have a bee in your bonnet about the wheels. I've just had a local chap rebuild mine and he reckons they are just about impossible to get spot on due to the spokes. You just can't get things to run true and 1-2mm is as good as you get. When the tyres are balanced on the wheel you'll never notice it and I have to say I never have.

Slydog, did you or your mates actually feel there is something wrong with the wheels or is it the case of just knowing they aren't perfect is eating you........?

PS I'm not Mr BMW but I'm a big enough boy to know nothing is perfect and I don't go on forums bleating about it if I have to fix something:rolleyes:

wrong i absolutly love the bmw gsa its the best bike i ever owned mate . and im not joking and im not here to wind anyone up all i was doing was stating facts that ive been told and shown by a couple of wheel builders and doing a lot of reading . so dont straight away assume that cos someones saying something against the bike that they hate it . i got lots of my mate off of sports bike and onto the gsa . im off the bike at the moment due to an accident but what bike do you think im gonna get next . will defo be a gsa probably a triple black but im not blinkered and i accept the faults . if you read my first post propperly you will see i said just live with it . so dont jump on the bandwagon and just asume

notice it

correct i never noticed it while riding . it was when i had it on the center stand and spun the wheel it was terrible . and i was in france pulling outta the hotel when i got back the manager said to me your back wheels buckled that when my investigations into this popular problem began . now im a bit anal in things like this so i must have checked 200 of the bloody things and all out to some extent some quite bad even on new bikes . now go and spin the wheels up on a tenere or a honda etc etc etc ooooooo there straight . its the way the bmw rims are welded together at the factory i . and as ive said in my eyes theres nothing better than a gsa but i am just open minded and i accept it has problems . you and others have made this something outta nothing yet again . if you read my first post you will see i said i loved my gsa and just live with it instead of reading it the way you wanted to . ride safe out there and il be back on a wobbly wheel before ya know it .

Mine are still round and keep the bike going forward on and off road, what more do you want.

Life is too short to be looking for faults.
