1200 GS TE LE Alarm

Hi,

I have the alarm fitted to my 2016 1200 GS
The bike has keyless igntion.

After about 30 seconds, the indicators flash twice (no audible beeps), which I presume is the alarm auto-setting.

When I press the ignition button, the light flash one which I am also presuming is the alarm being unset.

Here come the questions .....
1, I pressed the 'arm' button twice on the key fob and the indicatiors flashed 3 times; what does this mean?
2, is there a way to put the alarm into service mode so that the alarm does not activate when moving the bike to clean it.
3, I've searched but cannot find a comprehenvive guide for the alarm, is there such a thing???

On my 1250 three flashes is motion sensing is disabled.

I did this by disabling auto-setting via the TFT, then unsetting the alarm using the other button on the fob. I haven't re-enabled auto-setting since; I may use that when I'm touring.

I don't know if there's another way to unset the alarm, while it's in auto-setting mode, i.e. by using the fob (perhaps pressing one of the buttons some number of times).

Presumably, if you unset it using the fob (the 'other' button), while it's in auto-setting mode, it would just set itself again after a short period of time?

My bike doesn't have the TFT and I'm aware that some of the added features available with the TFT are not available on the non-TFT.
I wil turn the alarm off in the setup menu to see if this either disable the auto set and/or allows me to manually set the alarm ...... so much to learn ..... my head is spinning :D

I'm wondering what else the alarm actually does when it's *not* configured to detect motion - apart from detecting if the battery is disconnected. Considering that, when the key fob is in range, it disarms the alarm anyway, without the need to press a fob button. And the bike itself has an immobiliser, even with no alarm fitted.

OK, so the alarm isn't disarmed by just being within fob range. I had assumed it was, because it wasn't going off with movement - but this is probably just because I didn't have motion detection enabled.

But it going off when the bike is moved implies that it's configured for 'motion detection'? What if it isn't?

Is there a distinction between 'motion' when the wheels are moving, and knocks / vibration / general movement e.g. when trying to open a pannier?

Nope. That's the issue with Auto Arm. You park your bike, sort yourself out, open the garage door and move your bike. Off goes the alarm. Only way to stop it is to switch ignition on or turn the alarm off in the settings.

Is there not a setting in the menus? Look for DWA. If you have a remote you should be able to set the alarm just using the fob.

You could (which I did on my 15 keyed) obtain a fob from the !600 bikes and get the dealer to programme the bike for either auto set or fob set. Fob set being the better of the 2.
I had this done to my 15 GSA. I believe BMW were not supportive of this but it could be done.

However when I bought my 17 GSA (keyed) and the dealer was no longer able to configure the alarm as before. It was either auto set or off. BMW had disable the facility in their dealers computers.

Come my keyless 19 model, it came supplied with a remote so i have the choice again through the TFT.

In the first instance look at your settings on the dash under DWA and disable auto set then see if it will set with the remote. The alarm will not activate if the fob is close.
