1200 v's 1150 - from a Newbie

that's unusual.

Is it?

All my mates who've moved from 1150s to 1200s report higher fuel consumption (admittedly not 20% higher).

Worst so far is 28 litres for 230 miles, the 1150 needed 22 litres for the same journey but it seems to be improving - OBC reporting 41 mpg (up from 38)

I have a twin cam GSA and consistently get 300 miles from 29 litres commuting and 'hooning' around. If riding normally can get 55-58 mpg, but don't take this as driving miss daisy.

my first 1200 was more economical than the 1150 it replaced. my twin cam is more economical again.

i believe that is normally owners experience. maybe you and your mates ride faster? :nenau

Didn't expect to see that old bollocks repeated on here.:rob More what you expect from Bike magazine. The only thing that is 80 years old is the configuration. It's still a flat twin but so was the 2CV, does that make it the same? And wearing my other anorak, the 2CV engine was totally revamped in 1970 to the extent that there were virtually no common parts.

The vast majority of cars use a water cooled in line 4 engine just like they did before even I was born, does that make the engine designs 100 years old? Of course not and yes I acknowledge that the idea of the air cooled flat twin goes back a long way but it's not the same engine. Wiser people than me can probably give a detailed history of the engine and maybe tell us when there ceased to be any interchangeable parts from the original type.

I cringe every time I see references in the (gutter)bike press about an engine dating back to 1923 or whatever but please let's not have such nonsense here.

and while we're at it, guzzi's bike engine DID NOT come out of a half track.

Thanks for the concern, might just have another beer, it's either that or another rant-platitudes, no don't get me going. Trouble is I have time on my hands-a hotel full of ice climbers (and they say biking is dangerous) all in bed by now-remember though it's an hour later out here- as they get up pre stupid O clock in the morning to get on the frozen waterfalls. And I have to get up to give them breakfast-it's a wonder I'm so restrained!
