1200GS or 1200GSA?

I think the new bike is nice, so stop whinging about it.
I didnt like the look of the 1200. It looked too small and refined.
But this one is no bad at all. Its like when they get an ugly burd and put her on that extreme makeover programme. Same person in the end, but lets say, visually enhanced.
I think that getting rid of that stupid mushroomy rack tower has improved its looks a lot. The black rims and frame do the same.
Even the plastic tank covers are better.
They have somehow, as they did with the previous adv, made the crashbars look good.
All in all, a good job. Although I havnt seen it in the flesh yet so I might change me mind.

I cant see where all the vitriol is coming from though. No one complained before about the image of roundtheworldlyness. And who cares about short people anyway. If yer feet cant touch the ground .. hard luck, buy a smaller bike shortarse. You should have eaten your broccoli.

Unfortunately, I will have to wait till they are well into secondhandiness before I could consider getting one. By that time you will all be complaining about the new 1250adv.

Yep, you spoke fairly well for me as well.

I use the 12GS for commuting + touring, no (planned:))off road. None of the 'add-ons' really appeal to me. With the current BMW range I'd still buy the 'basic' 12GS.

I'm sure that there's enough people that 'need' the ADV, so BMW will sell shed loads.

Why do some ask this time after time. Just because I like to spend money on myself and enjoy it. This question is always asked. I will not lower my self to say yes or no to having children (not small goats). I should not have too.

I know one thing once the children leave the nest they are on there own other than support if they fool over., but working all you life just to leave it to them give me a brake. This is PC gone wrong.

The way some are going they will never leave home :mcgun :bow

Here here! Fair play to you mate I'm in your corner on this one, it's a bloody good move not having kids. My Missus has 3 and they're all a load of scrounging selfish Bastards. Spend the money on ya self and enjoy it while ya can!

I too have no kids and never intend on having them. It's the best thing you'll ever do for the planet too :D

Be GREEN and so NO to having kids!

As some of you may be aware I recently bought my GSA 1150 a few months ago with the realisation that the 1200 GSA would be launched soon. So why didn't I wait? Because I couldn't be bothered and I really do prefer the shape of the 1150 to the 1200! The new bike is great but even if I had the money I wouldn't trade it. I'll stack the miles on this bike and get my monies worth before I think about parting with it, that's what I do with my bikes.

I do sympathise with Alan as he echoes my obsessive traits too, but I simply have to control it. If you don't, it really can make you ill and can end up ruining your life, I see it at work a lot. You have to try and channel your energy's elsewhere more productive, it you don't you can end up losing relationships etc and end up in to much debt too!

Off Topic: Good to hear you talking well of your white charger. Does that mean the gearbox has been sorted ? .... Or do BTBR's lights make that much of a difference?

(Black GSA at Craven Arms with you, Sunday 6 weeks ago. Got BTBR's meself the week after you and can ride at night for the first time without losing it on the twisties !) :thumb

Sold my 03 GSA Sept 04 and have been without a bike this year / decided to wait until the 12gsa arrived before committing to ordering a bike for 06.

I am not a fan of the 12gs purely because of the styling.

However,
Subject to seeing the 12gsa in the flesh and road testing, my initial reaction from the excellent photo's are that it will be my next bike.

My gripe with the 1150gsa was the screen which I replaced with an aeroflow barn door type screen and the passenger seat which I replaced with a wifesaver which was made from an old life jacket covered with sheepskin, both these items appear to have been rectified on this new model and as I am several feet tall the seat height will not be an issue.

Anyone know what livery they will be offered in. :bow

...or you could buy another 1150GSA! They should be a damn sight cheaper now the 1200 is coming and it sounds like you liked it! Think of the 000000 reading on the clocks!! A fresh canvas to accessorise to your hearts content with the money you saved, and you know what you're getting: no hidden surprises!!....No? Oh well, only a suggestion..;)

BTBR,

I'm glad to see that you're taking a more sensible attitude to a subject that's completely mad; buying a new bike. :D
I've bought a few new bikes in my short time on this planet, but I think I've always made sure that I've got the best bang for the buck and the best bike for the situation.

In the past few years I've been fortunate enough to be able to ride a fair share of the new bikes on the market, and there's one thing that has taught me; ride the bike you're going to buy. If you can't ride it; don't buy it.

Wait till there's an Adv and a "basic" one at your dealers and take them both out for a spin and see which one makes you smile more. Then go home and go to the pub and see which bike it is you're talking about.

It's all about what bike you want, and the bike you feel you want to ride.

I would never have chosen the GS if I wouldn't have ridden it. I've ridden some bikes that I thought I'd like and only to come back wanting to set it on fire. Then I've ridden a bunch of bikes that have had me laughing out loud in the helmet, some bikes have made me ride like a God, etc.

The proof is in the riding! :)

Good Luck with your choice!

BTW, I don't have kids either; and I'm not planning on either... why would I subject anyone that I will probably love beyond reason to a bunch of people like yourselves... Muahahhahaha!!! ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) :D :D :D

why buy new??

Allan,
I had been waiting for the adv. to appear too. All it has confirmed is I have the right bike already. The biggest mistake i've made in years was to buy a brand new bike :tosser !!!! Yes, the Pan was new, cost a fortune with the extras and I lost loads on it after a year and a bit. Why dont you buy an 05 1200 with a few miles on (there are a couple in the for sale section) cheap as chips for around 8k then put Ohlins on, decent ali. boxes(Metal Mule have a great new set up for a 'slim' 1200) fastway pegs a few TT trick bits and you will have all the GS you need and have money in your pocket. I know you want to keep the weight down, thats why i never bought a 1150GSA far to heavy, the 1200GS offers a strong weight advantage and even after fitting engine bars and rocker cover protectors still offers a good weight gain over the GSA.
For sure the more I ride mine the more I love it, even with the quirky looks  I have some limited fun off road now I have some decent tyres on it (Heidenaus) and they work well on the tarmac.thats my 10 pennorth :D

Can't see why you sold the 1150Adv, Alan (thought you were going down the 2 seat conversion route, last week)

A liitle slow in replying to this, having thought that it was sold six weeks ago there was no other option. Then for whatever it all went tits up and I still had it.

In the meantime, I decided that I will now have to keep it, so I explore the two seat option, as you know. All the adverts are removed and the bike is stopping.

Then out of the blue, man number two comes along. Yes I'll have it, he tells me on the Saturday morning, the money is at home waiting, I'll collect it next week.

The following evening, man number two rings back. Sorry, but I've changed my mind, I dont want it now. :spitfire

So after this latest bombshell, I decide that I simply cannot put up with all this hassle any longer and the bike is staying. Monday morning I then order the 1150 two seat complete assembly and a Remus can.

Monday evening, man number two rings back again and declares that he will be at my house Thurday night with the cash in £50 notes.

All the stuff was put on hold until man number two actually turned up and handed over the money which he did.

Otherwise, yes I would still have the GSA now with the 1150 seats on it!

Have I done the right thing, who knows, only time will tell? I

BTBR

Well Alan I think you have made the right move. I would have gone for the new GSA if I hadn't got the standard 1200. 18k in just over a year and it does everything I want, so not changing for a while, but still think the the new GSA looks the DB though.

Ah, so there's still time for another 1150 Adventure before the 1200 GSA arrives.

Which heart monitor did you recommend? Must be robust. :thumb

Personally I would recommend any of the Polar range. But it all depends on how much you want to spend really? I would think that for less than £100 you will get more than enough for what you need.

Just make sure that you get one with a zone alarm would be my only 'must have' really. This is so that you can then work in a specific zone, if you go either side of that set zone then the bleeper will sound.

It is also good to have a two stage timer, this is very useful for interval training, 1 minute off, 30secs on type of situation.

polar

Alan is dead right, go for a polar, from the basic Tempo up they are the best

:D Sorry Alan, I was referring to your changes of heart and your need to protect it. :eek :eek :eek :D

My fault, I'm a :tosser . But there, again, you have had a few bikes recently and it was the pedal variety that had you under its spell when we had a drink together.

I placed you as an out and out 1150 Adventure biker pissed off by a ride in the rain (10 days). How wrong can one be? Who me??
