As Knut pointed out this is about the new R 1250 GS and not some bmw haters showing how clueless they really are. I never claimed to be a riding god but I can tell you after having done this stuff for the last 25 years...schools,trackdays and club races I ride my S1000RR at fast group club racer pace and have my trophies/time slips to prove it.
Anyways it's not only me that says the GS is the best/fastest bike for the Alps as the 1200GS-Rallye won the Alpen Masters 2017 and and this year in 2018 again ! Over the years the R1,Kawasaki H2R,12290 Super Duke,GT,Superadv,1260 MS,Blade,S1000XR,etc tried and all failed against the mighty GS...
B.t.w. this year they had a Speed Triple RS and KTM 790 Duke too and the BMW beat them Both !
Facts not fiction...racing on the streets is stupid (but fun) and still maybe only 70% of track pace max but if someone is not only fast on the keyboard I race you on the S1000RR on the track any time to stop the B.S. !
Believe whatever you want but don't come on a BMW enthusiast board and knock the GS and try to ridicule BMW riders with stereotypical B.S or your cluelessness !
I just hope BMW does the upgrade right and does not bore us with 9 hp more...:thumb
Enough said !
But it's all good...:beerjug:
The last 20 years I go with a group of guys to mexico to be free for a while have fun & ride fast.I was always on a BMW an got ridiculed on my R,RS,S or GS.First they all had japanese sportbikes.
Then they bought Duc MS and KTM's.Now they all ride the GS.Wonder why...:D
Makes it harder for me to beat them...;)

Well there's a whole raft of willy waving riding God references right there, but I'm guessing that your blinkers don't allow you any clear views. :blast

Alpen Masters? A German magazine's road test of various styles of bike riding round the Alps. Nothing wrong per-say with posting that as a general reference as its all info that readers can digest as they feel fit according to their own criteria when researching/taking an interest in bikes.
Q:-GS, great bike?, A:- Yes. If you asked me what bike I would take for two up touring in the Alps it's most likely I'd pick the GS just like I've done many times in the past as its so pillion friendly. (I'll throw you a bone here Boxerlust - your beloved TL is great for reducing pillion see-saw, #objectiveobservation ;))

However, it's more than a bit disingenuous to try and make what is not even a tenuous link in support of the claims you are championing, i.e. the mythical powers of your GS regarding being the fastest best handling street and twisty back road slayer out there.
Now, if you'd posted the following link to show just how the GS faired in a little of what I believe you call "pavement surfing" I'd be able to take your posts a tad more seriously.

Sorry boxerlust I was going to try and find the full listing showing exactly where the GS came in but I'll leave you to do that :green gri

The top 3 went to another KTM, the 790 Duke of Chris Fillmore, who completed the race in 10 minutes and 4 seconds, staying very short of achieving his goal: to get off the 10 minutes with a motorcycle of the Middleweight class. In any case, Fillmore achieved an authentic race for a motorbike of only 105 HP, also establishing a new record in the Middleweight category, staying five seconds behind his partner Scaysbrook with the 1290 Super Duke R 180 hp...

So with an extra 75 hp can only gain 5 seconds ,, go figure that one .

Don't see the 1290 s there either ...or in front of me . Yes I am fast and I have a huge cock , a shrine at home to remind me of my own glory , huge mirrors for my huge ego , both knees worn to bone , and cut outs in my seat for my massive balls . Just saying like .:bounce1:bounce1:friday:friday:friday:friday:bounce1:bounce1:bounce1:bounce1:drool:drool

I think there has been a brain fart at BMW HQ design offices. The bikes should be lighter, more powerful or at least have a better power to weight ratio (1.3 to 1.97 kg/ps pah ) and better build quality. It seems not. Porsche has this evolution thing down to a tee. Every new model has tiny refinements or improvements made but the overall effect is a so much better car than the predecessor. So why the fuck do I want to buy a new GSA? In contrast the R1200R I had as a loan bike yesterday. What a pleasure to ride something a bit more basic and lighter that responds so well to to inputs. After this Euro jaunt the GSA is going. £10k is the price with about 25k on the clock well cared for machine (FBMWSH and 24k service done yesterday) and the PR4s would have done 3k. No issues with the bike, it is white and available from middle Sept. The R1100S stays with me. It is just right and the best bike BMW ever made.

Just like Moto GP, Moto 2, Moto 3 and then WSB, WSS etc. The lap times between the classes are very close but the power difference are huge. Moto 3 carries higher corner speed than Moto GP. Just saying.

Like I have said before , corner speed is your friend along with good handling , its not all the 160 hp thing , just usable planted power. I have said this so many times , its not hard to grasp ( well for some it is )

Yup, why spend nearly £20k on the latest and greatest when a quarter of that will buy you a low mileage mint bike with not a spec of corrosion and painted properly !!!
And no ESA this and ASC that to fail.....

Whoooosh

Stick, all my replies have been addressing the at best fanciful dreams (read total bullshit) that Boxerlust insists on calling truths. I can't recall seeing anyone, including me, posting things to challenge the many acknowledged strengths that the GS has.

If you and your double act want to get your tongues so far up between the corporate arse that their fat cheeks blind out any other view then go for it, it really doesn't matter to me. :thumby:
But if you post bullshit on a forum then expect to be called out.
If you can't see the difference between "BMW hater's" and folk pointing out the king has no cloths on then I suggest you both put on your twat suits, go sit in a dark cupboard and phone each other for chumfort. :dabone

I was quite happy to post the link of Pikes Peak results showing all those other bikes and not a mention of my chosen ride as this is not about my 1190 is better than your GS, but I understand your ability to comprehend the messages in posts appears to be somewhat limited so include this line to give you a gentle push in the right direction :comfort

To quote: Go figure :D

Speaking of quotes, if you're not sure how to embed previous posts so that it clear who's saying what just PM me and I'll talk you through it so you don't look like a complete numpty :green gri

Calm down

You bought the F800GS that eng. was selling didn't you :D

@ukrr thanks for posting that article #486 !
But I think Ben Purvis might have it wrong as he says the ADV has 20 mm more wheelbase as it actually has 10 mm less due to 95 mm trail compared to 100 mm on the regular GS.Which makes the ADV/Rallye the quicker handling bike compared to the regular GS.
But even if he is right 84 cc more is good for more TORQUE which is always good and only 11 hp more is not great but still 136 hp is better than 125 hp...5 Kilos more is not good but the new heads and Euro-5 exhaust brings more weight.
I guess it is the way of things to come.Thank the idiots in Brussels for it that we only get moderate improvements like 136 hp and not 145 or 150 like we expected after seeing the 17 inch wheel 145 hp alphatechnik GS that had only 1170 cc...
The only thing I really don't like is the quieter exhaust due to Euro-5...:(
I hope the aftermarket comes with a cure quick.
No more top-speed as Ben Purvis said I don't believe even if he was right with the 132 mph ADV and 136 mph GS figures. To really get more they needed a bigger 1300/1400 cc 150-160 hp motor but I guess Euro-5 spoiled that party...
But with 10hp/15nm more torque I would not be surprised if we see 136/140 mph max and get there quicker...:thumb2
Not bad except for the quiet exhaust...
Still hope for the 17 inch wheel version right from the factory,though...:D
And the R 1250 S...:beerjug: A modern version of the R1100S :thumby:

As for the Pikes Peak article you can see it in different ways.
Chris Fillmore is the only professional racer here racing KTM's RC8R in AMA Superbike until KTM decided to pull out because they were not "Ready to Race" or tired of loosing...;)
Chris Fillmore should have won against all those amateurs like he did on the 1290 before...
A good rider like him can overcome a 75 hp difference and be still faster than a guy on a 180 hp machine in this real world environment. You can still kill yourself with only 105 hp...:D
No GS was a the starting line;especially none with 17 inch wheels right from the factory...;)
Would be interesting if they let Fillmore ride the GS,1260MS and 1290 KTM and then compare times !
Tanneman the R1100S being the best BMW ever made...I'd agree with you if BMW had ever upgraded it.But unfortunately the 1200 cc engine that runs smoother and stronger, more ground clearance, gear indicator and maybe 3 liters more in the tank never came...
The GS you can ride faster and more comfortable doing so.
The R1200S had a power band like a RD 400 (you had to keep it between 6-8000rpm),even smaller tank, cute little bags and no centerstand...:(
Hope the rumors about the R 1250 S are true and they learn from their mistakes and make a S boxer that is good looking, fun on track days and still practical enough for the holiday trip...:beerjug:
Or the GS with 17 inch wheels will do...straight from the factory of course...;)
If not the S1000XR in triple black looks mighty fine despite the chain...
It's all good...:thumby:
