It is, but why didn't you iron this out when buying? both my GS & GSA were negotiated with a £100 (GS because I was green), and a non chargeable on the GSA - you live and learn

Very recently paid 170. Seems to be the going price.
ring up and deal direct with the service manager. there is alot of scope for them to move.

£100 is not a bad price, considering the equivalent oil would cost you about £42 of the net. Then factor in a genuine BMW oil filter £16.
total £58 plus 30 mins labour which is about £45.
When you are quoted £170 the dealer is marking up at approx 70%
We would not stand for it in the car world. Car dealers just check the oil at 1000 miles. How many car manufactures recommend an oil change?
I understand BMW will cal it running in oil? Does a modern engine really need it?
Are BMW pulling our pants down?....

Ditto. Just ask for it as a condition of sale BEFORE you sign on the dotted. The internal cost of the service inside the dealership is substantially less.
I had a BMW Three Series diesel in 2005 which did 25k miles before its oil was changed. Why do bikes need it doing at 600 then every 6000 miles? I could understand highly tuned S1000RRs or similar because the engines could really have to work hard but a 1200 GS is no where near this state of tune. Additionally, my CRF250 was scheduled for every 8000 miles and I'm sure this engine had to work harder than a GS.
I would like to see an analysis of the oil after a year and 6000 miles to see how much life remained it it.
