2008/03/23 - Event - Red Kite Rally

Sorry, cannot find a map with that area on im afraid, altho i remember it being on a OS map, from last year.
like i say, if you want petrol taking to the refuelling area . . .see above !

No 162.

Hiya,
Im coming down saturday afternoon to partake in a few jars in the evening. I presume some folk on here will be doing the same.
Im bring the whole range of Klim riding kit, a load of Kriega bags, a RAM mount fitting kit and some nifty bashplates we've started manufacturing. Will have a stand in the start area, probably be floating around the rugby club with a pint of guinness on saturday as well.
Im starting last so will probably get lapped by Brian E!
See you there

As long as a certain very generous bloke is still lending me his bike, I expect I'll be coming up Sunday morning, me Missus will be in the Van, and will then be heading to the refueling point. (Why she wan't to come up is beyond me, but she seems to want to.)

This means she can probably transport some Jerry cans from the Start to the refuel point.

It's a bright Yellow Kangoo Van, I'll be (hopefully) on a Husky 510, come and say hello, and I'm sure we can chuck your fuel and spare gloves in the back.

Or just come and say hello anyway.

I'm number 144.

Steve

Do you have the co-ordinates for the "pit area"?

Just been to the local library for you
GR as far as I can make out is 875394.(Assuming its the same as last year)

See you there. folks

Fuel Area

As Fool said in his earlier post, my van will be going up to the Refuel area in the morning, as will loads of others; there is no need to worry about getting your gear on board one of the vans going up. There will be loads of people happy to help.

Just remember which van you stuck it in......:blast

Cheers, Rick

An useful tip for you. If someone is taking your petrol up for you, make sure that your cans have some distinguishing mark on them - because every soddin Jerrycan looks the same. :thumb

Guys HELP!!!!

getting bike ready for the Red kite and just realised that the chain I got is too long. Anybody able to lend me a chain splitter in the Bristol area?

Thanks in advance!

Have cross posted on the Southwest forum

I'll bring a chain splitter / joiner to the rally, so if you are really stuck come and find me at the Rugby Club on Saturday evening and you can borrow it. Dark red Land Rover Defender towing a KTM 950.

Just got home after another great rally, and 250 mile drive home. Im going to be soooo stiff tomorrow morning. Oops, sorry, im going to be sooo sore tomorrow morning !
Took a few tumbles. One of which saw one of my contact lenses roll round the back of my left eye. It reappeared in the correct place at the next "off".
Cool or what !

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

A geat event...very wet.

Some hghlights:
Snoopy binned it and took out a KTM after saing I'm not going o crash
I decided to avoid some deep water and found a bog - I was lucky only the back wheel droped in or it would have been a major issue
I caught and over took an HP2!

A very diffrent kind of Welsh muck was collected

The one very step hill with he tight left hill bucked me into the soft verge on the first attempt and the bike just dug a hole - Nathan and Colin got be back on the track and the bike was great.

On the second circuit I got to the tight cornerand the track was blocked by fallen and stuck bikes and the marshall decied to close the hill.

.... Airheads have big bang traction, you'd be suprised what they get up. On that course the thechnique was a light throttle and let the 'thump thump' do the work. The soil was very deep and early on I discovered just a couple of seconds of revs dug a deep hole.

A geat event much tougher than the Cambrian

Also just got back from the Red Kite, superb weekend, and really challenging for my first rally event, as wreford said the soil/mud was really thick and i also got bogged down in some horrible mossy gue trying to avoid what i thought was a deep puddle but as it turned out it wasnt.
the ktm 525 did me proud, cant wait for the cambrian.:thumb

Happy days

Wreford, a) I've got to agree with you about it being tougher than the Cambrian route we did last October and b) I followed you round on my XR650 for about half a lap and was mightily impressed. I followed you up that steep bank which was nearly an event stopper for me !

I will do up some pictures and words later today when my arms work again but in the meantime, thanks to Reg (Sandman) and Mo for transport, spannering, sarnies and moral support and it was a good laugh to dice with RickA on one of the special stages.

Will hopefully get to see and meet more people on the Ryedale and Cambrian this year and then after that The Tuareg here we come. I love it

Thanks to all the organisers too - much appreciated
