Can anyone tell me why the output from the heated grips on my 08 GS 1200 is poor to say the least? or am I just a big soft Jessy?

Position 1 - Don't bother, I can hardly tell they are on
Position 2 - Ok, they work, but they don't exactly toast you and if its really cold there is just not enough heat in them.

Yes, I've had them checked at the dealers who say there is no fault . However they say I'm not the first to complain about the GS heated grips.
No, I'm not riding around with loads of electrical drain on the system.
Why is it the BMW heated grips on my 19 year old R80 out performs the GS by a country mile? I could cook a full English breakfast on them.
So many questions, got any ideas?

Mick

Something not right here. Not an expert out output ratings but my 08 gsa: - Position one just right for those cold winter mornigs on the way to work
Position two gets to hot sometimes and reserved for when Jack Frost is about:beerjug:

08 Gs

Position 1 - Hot
Position 2 - Red hot

:aidan

08 1200gs
setting 1 hot
setting 2 For freezing mornings only.Allmost too hot.
Sounds like something wrong i'm afraid!!:blast

On setting 2, mine gets so hot, it sticks the throttle on!

Mines an '07, maybe they toned it down for the '08's:nenau

I would say it also depends on the gloves you are wearing, with BM~ summer gloves pos1 is toasty on my 08 GSA pos2 is well hot. With Winter gloves pos1 is warm enough and pos2 is toasty.

;) 07 Adv...
pos 1)...HOT

pos 2)...F Hot....

so it does sound like they aren't doing the do...:eyesdown

Same here 07 12 gsa P1 are they on P2 they work
complianed did software update worked for 2 weeks back to normal Shite:nenau BWM answ :nenau:nenau:nenau:nenau

Mine were same initially on my '08 - I rode it and a demo GS back-to-back and was astounded by the difference in them, as my hands were cooking on the GS.

Subsequently had a roll-up software update for a few bits and pieces, and the heated grips were fixed by that...

Mine are exactly the same on my '08 model:mad:

Position 1 - only noticable on summer mornings with summer gloves
Position 2 - about the same as position 1 on my previous two GS's

I also have what I call the "frost failsafe" which means that they don't work at all if the low outside temperature warning is flashing when you start off - obviously to keep you focused;)

I have to switch off the ignition and restart to have heated grips:eek

The software has been upgraded twice :mcgun

Was not impressed with the heated grips on my 08 GSA and Pidcocks replaced both of them under warranty - work much better now :D

+1 on my 08 GS
Asked dealer to check and they said they are ok :nenau
I've had 11 other Bm's over the years and the 08 are sh-t.
I will ask for replacements on next service.

Position 1 comfortable...
Position 2 HOT through somewhat thick gloves.

Takes a bit of time for the grips to warm, and especially if RPM's are up, the warming comes on quicker.

Heated Grips

Glad you brought this up. My 08 GS was in for the 6oo mile check and the weather was pretty cold when I took the bike in(I ken, just a poof), thought is was the thicker gloves I was wearing, so went to pos 2. Grips on the F800 curteous bike were redders the difference being noticeable. When I rode my GS back home I again thought these effers arn't effing working properly. Will have to get the bike back to have them checked. I will definately ask for a back to back comparison as that will be the best way for the mechy and I to compare. Had no probs with the grips on my 05 bike

Heated Grips

Just to ram the point home, my '05 GS12 is warm with thick gloves on position 1, and ultimately unbearably hot on position 2 - fantastic in cold and/or rain. The ankle warmers are also very efficient.........

Thinks for replies - looks like they are a bit hit & miss.

Anyway I sent off an email to BMW customer services on Saturday & to give them credit I had a telephone call off them this afternoon (Monday) to say that they are authorising new grips and ta software upgrade. Very pleased with the speed of response. Just hope it sorts the the problem out, I'll let you all know.
