2010 fuel consumption

My hand book 2010 GSA tells me it has 33 litres + 4 litres reserve making total capacity 37L

It's difficult to know if the grand total of 2010 GSA tank is 37l unless you force all air pockets out of the tank whilst filling up! The spec does say it has "usable" 33l including 4l reserve. The low fuel warning light usually comes on when you have 40 miles range or less which equate about 4l. Once I overran my zero range for a few miles and put in just over 34l! I think 33l is about right with range at zero.

On-board computer says 46.3 mpg on average after 1,400 miles since new. Mix of town riding and weekend fun. Only weekend plus motorway I could easily get up to 50mpg. The most accurate check though is counting the litres to a full tank every time you refill (I still think in km per litre which makes things easier).

Interesting to hear your quotes re fuel consumption.Has anybody else had experience of an 'accelerator' ? I fitted one to my 2010 gs and it certainly improves the richness of the mixture, but to the detriment of economy, as I am now getting 180 miles from a tank. This is probably partly due to the fact that most of our riding round here is on little used country roads, where you are off and on the bikes accelerator constantly. Might be time to remove it !!

Do you really need an accelerator on a twin cam GS IMO the fuelling is spot on. The accelerator seems best suited to the 08/09 engine which appears to have been set up too lean as standard.

fuel consumption

2010 gs, 6000 miles. town commute with 2 stretches where i get to 40mph if lucky. averaging around 44mpg now. On long trip get around 55mpg and goes to 52mpg 2 up and laden. Looking at getting accelerator module to smooth roughnes. either that or a Booster. But also don't want to bust the mpg expenses!!

I am getting 56-57mpg according to trip computer on country roads around 40-70mph This dropped to 53 on my last tank which I attributed to carrying more revs in lower gears since starting to ride with earplugs. I use shell optimax and have done 7000 miles. What are other 2010 engine owners getting ? Whats the most anyone has gone between fill ups - I have done about 225 miles ? big man abuse or fellow nigels equally welcome to respond !

You must ride very conservatively as I don't consider myself a maniac by a long stretch but the most I get is 45mpg on my GSA. Have you calculated it for yourself to see if the computer is accurate?

No I haven't, but if computer is wrong, then working out my own mileage will also be a bit funny as the computer is also the odometer so miles ridden could be wrong? I might try it out though

I average slightly over 50mpg over all types of riding- I don't have a computer on my 2010 GS, so I calculated it from the trip meter and brimming the tank - probably more accurate than the on-board computer and fuel gauge anyway.

OK, just filled up and been riding around through London suburbs with all Saturday traffic. Lots of stop/start, filtering and slow following. A few 30 mile an hour straights and then a burst down the A3 and back. Reset the on-board at fill up. While in the traffic consumption went to around 37 - 40mpg. Soon as I hit the A3 it went up slowly. I have now only done 30 miles and ridden with some great acceleration, been up to 110 for a while on a couple os stretches and it sits on 51.4 mpg. Yes it is a short ride, but if that is an indication of mixed riding, then wicked! I'll see what it ends up over the week and try do a manual check as well to confirm the on board comp too. Bike on 6133 miles.

For what its worth. Just finished a weeks commuting to and from Croydon. All morning and evening stuff apart from my run down a bit of the A3 as mentioned above. I rode till computer said 8 miles left in my range. Computer said 45.5 MPG. I have plugged the figures here and I get that my actual MPG is around 41.4 MPG. Only got 140 miles before needing to refill. Have 1 ore day of commuting then a long run up to Cambridgeshire so will see the difference on Motorway miles. So at least we know that on board is not as accurate as manually doing it, but here's the thought: The on-board must be recalculating according to all feedback received from bike and all adjustments made in split seconds. And are affected by more factors all the time. The manual calculation, just assumes distance over petrol used...so which is better...?

I would tend to think that the manual calculation would be more accurate since the computer probably relies on the tank level sensor ? which is notoriously inaccurate.

I used to get 55+ on mine but since having it retuned !, wearing earplugs, raised windscreen plus winter starts I am back in low fifties. need to monitor it a bit longer to see how stable it is.

Just done the long trip on A1 in heavy, real heavy winds. Both ways so that should even that argument of wind help etc out. Went to collect my new swanky pannier frames from Roger Ardcase! Awesome. Computer said 54.3 MPG and that was at 80 mph most of way. Got to fuel station and topped up to close to same level as last fill. So in a nutshell, I used 14 litres to get 160 Miles. Average calculated manually is 51.95MPG as opposed to computer saying 54.3MPG...On way back I rode at slower speed around 65 to 70 and computer went up t 55.4MPG. So not going to hit that, but at least lets hope the computer increments incorrectly proportionately. Now i know roughly, I am going to try forget this exercise and just ride the beast

Owned a 1200 rt for 4 years, on long trips always kept fuel receipts and worked out consumption at end of trip. last years trip to lake garda 61 miles to gallon ,national rally 63 miles to gallon Have now bought new 1200 adv(2010)have only done 700 miles so far, trip computer showing 47 miles to gallon.Have to see what its like when run in and doing a good long run.This years holiday is germany ,Moselle valley and of course the national rally again .Mind you in last years rally at 2.30 in morning filled it full of diesel

Earlier I'd posted an average of 53. I changed wheels to a set with TKC80's and am consistently getting 47. With the weather over the last month or so here it's been at cruising car-type speeds due to the salt mud and crud on the road. Not saying the onboard computer is infallible but instantly noticeable that it's gone to 47 over 3 tanks of fuel on the GSA from a consistent 53.
Presumably that means the Conti Trail Attacks have a bit less rolling resistance. Looking forward to 53 again when the others go back on. Probably July!

2010 GSA with 4000 miles and I'm getting round about 50 mpg,according to the onboard computer.
I am not sure I can trust the fuel gauge though.I have had to have the sender unit replaced once. Going down to the Alps I was getting about 10 miles to the litre which meant I should have been able to do over 300 miles on a tank, but having run it dry once, and having a mate with me whose 650 needed filling up after 160 miles I didn't test this.

i have definitely increased fuel consumption by up to 10% since I changed from worn out conti OEms to dunlop roadsmart. only getting 50mpg at constant 70 mph. this on shell optimax and with retuned engine. raised windscreen might be also a factor but after playing with tobs i think the tyres are the main thing. anyone else noticed this with roadsmart ?
