Having done 2500 miles on my 2010 GSA and experimented with the accelerator but taken it off in the end, was slightly dissapointed with the bike, didnt feel as nice to ride as the demostrator

took the silencer off so i could play with my endoscope, had heard the default position for the exhaust flap was open and assumed this meant fully open so was surprised to see it was approx 75% open

ran the engine and with medium revs it closes to 50% open and didnt appear to reopen with much higher revs, noise levels stopped me experimenting too much

(these are rough approximations in tems of % openings)

disconnected the cables from the pulley which allows the flap to be 100% open and reassembled the exhaust

then went out to play for 10 miles

anyone else done this mod

No I haven't but keep us posted on what you think about leaving the flap fully open please..

can't beat having your flap's open:augie

:)

went for a 100 mile ride, mixed riding from lanes to motorways

without any dyno graphs to quantify any changes, the best i can say is I wont reconnect the exhaust flap cables, I like the midrange torque too much and can now hear the exhaust on the motorway at 85mph

actually want to ride the bike for fun now, cant wait to get the cat cut out

Flaps

was there any downside to leaving open, top end or pulling away?

It's quite a common mod on sportsbikes. The manufacturers spin you a yarn about low end torque etc. but its only there for the noise test.

There's a tendancy for them to gum up and stick with mileage anyway.

I only have 1600kms on mine but I do not feel it has the same power in mid-band as my '05 1200GS. It may loosen up more, but it sounds like I need to try sticking the valve open....

Perhaps your exhaust flap motor needs resetting so it knows where it's end stop is.
The cable can stretch or if the cable has been removed/replaced resetting it will allow for any stretch.

Disconnecting the exhaust valve flap motor is a common tweak with HP2 Sport owners.

The aftermarket exhausts on the 1000R do away with valve entirely.

I don't want noise, I want to see if there is better power through the mid-range which seems a bit dull at present. Engine is still very new so I won't rush things.
