Well I'm very close to signing on the line for a gsa. I only seem to enjoy my R1 when pushing too hard and really want something I can ride all day and have my wife with me too.

So I've put down a holding deposit on a 2014 64 plate gsa te. 10k miles with full alu luggage. Having a test ride next Saturday and can't wait.

But.....at £13.5k would I be better off going for a brand new base model gsa with luggage instead? I've never had the bells and whistles of the new bike so don't feel like I particularly need them. I'm sure ill like all the fancy suspension and cruise control etc though.

Basically the bottom line figures are almost identical. Can't decide which one to go for. Brand new or used but higher spec.

What would you guys recommend?

Cheers

Dave

The newer base line one might be harder to sell when the time comes! I'd go for the older TE all day long :beerjug:

You'd be best off paying your subs, and buying mine which is in the for sale section with all you'll ever need, and right on budget!:green gri:D

I'll even knock £12 off the price, to cover your costs.:thumb

Sent using a Jedi mind trick!

The top spec bike with proper bmw sat nav to use all the features is a good package,
The brand new basic spec bike is a good machine, that has been my choice,
From experience the basic bike sells easily ,
Add heated grips and it's your choice of luggage,
It's worth a subscription on here, lots of info and banter,

I've always bought base models (new) with heated grips and luggage. The myth of higher spec models having better residual value is just that, a myth. I've never even had ABS on any of my bikes except the current one and it's never affected the resale/trade-in value. :thumb

A brand new bike or a used one with 10k....hmmm. no amount of fancy gubbins (got a used te) compensates for 2 year full warranty and 0 miles IMO

while I like the electronic suspension adjustment, its not a deal breaker. Did a happy 15k on a basic 1200 multistrada and never wished for the higher spec.

heated grips a must on any serious touring bike though.

I am actually starting to swing towards a new one. Like you say the 2 years full warranty and the fact it would be new to me is very appealing. I'll get 12months be warranty with the used one but it won't be the same cover.

Can anyone comment on any difference when riding the two? I won't be able to have a test on a base model. No demo gsa at all.

check the lead time, the new "basic" bike will most likely be built to order.... you may have to wait 12 weeks .... then you will be hitting the German Holiday and 2017 retooling/Maintenance ... worth checking that they don't quote you a September delivery for a build to order....

I enquired after a Bum Basic GSA in January and was told that none existed in the supply chain....

Hi Dave

Seriously have you had a look at Nuttys bike, it's for sale on here. I bought a new gsa in October last year but if I had seen his bike I definitely would of bought that. Lots of nice bits on it including an Akro

I've even said we can work out a way of getting it up to him, either in a van, or I could ride it up there if it's a nice day.:D

Havent got the cash sitting for a private buy otherwise I'd be tempted.

Well I had my test ride today and loved it. Took a while to get used to it after the R1 but enjoyed it for sure.

So looks like a basic GSA for me.

Quick question - Does the basic model have rain and road modes? I assume it has things like the gear indicator and fuel range trip details etc?

Sorry to hijack this thread but, a quick question. When I test rode the GS (and I'm pretty sure the GSA) it had the suggested gear change indicator on the dash. I noticed when riding my new 2015 GSA TE home from picking it up the other day that mine doesn't seem to have it. Is this a setting somewhere, only on the GS or didn't the 2015 bikes have this? Cheers

Yep, that's a setting on the computer.:thumb

Hi.
I just bought a mint 14 GSA TE approved used BMW with 10k miles for £13k
They now come with two years warranty and breakdown etc
There is no change in the spec I am told.
New ones now have three years.
I love all the electronic stuff

That's news to me about a 2 year warranty on a used bike and a 3 year warranty on new?
Yeah me too, I bought a 15 plate GSA at the end of March. As it had 14 months manufacturer warranty left, that's what I have. Or so I thought, can anyone confirm the 2 year warranty and breakdown.
