2017.10 Map Update - not finding SD card ?

I'd be happy with that solution - downloading to computer/Mac first but I don't get that option with Express.

As i have said that screen shot was from a pc, i dont run a mac. I have done a bit of digging for you and have found this, it may be of help.

the ability to download maps to your PC/mac:

The ability to install maps to the computer using Garmin Express 4.x has changed slightly.

The option to install maps to the computer when performing a reinstall is not being offered at this time if the full coverage of mapping had previously been installed to the GPS device or a SD card. A request has been made to add this functionality back to Garmin Express but until then, if maps must be installed to the computer and this is not a first time update, ie a reinstall, an earlier version of Garmin Express (3.2.x) will need to be installed on the computer to do so.

However, if you are installing the map for the first time, you can click “View Details” for the map update and select the option to install maps to the computer.

If you previously installed a smaller region and would like to install maps to the computer, this can be done by selecting “Change Map” and then going into the change region selection and choosing “use map with Garmin BaseCamp.”

You may need to install an earlier version of express before this option becomes available.

Thanks for the info, can't believe they've removed features ?! Reason for asking your version of Express was that it appears as though Garmin are keeping version numbers in line between Mac and Windows OS. Following the note above, I assume you're running something in the 3.x range rather than 4.x ?

This was effectively the solution I ended up with as I cannot get Garmin Express to find the SD card either. Once I had the maps on the PC/Mac i just used mapinstall

No i am running version 4.6.2 and have never had an issue with any versions of basecamp mapsource or mapinstall, i guess i am just lucky. All being well this may solve the inabillity to load maps onto your mac or minimac.

Even resetting didn't help it find the SD card. Had to use a Windows machine in the end. Borrowed a spare unit from dealer and that all fit on the main unit so unsure as to whether it recognised SD card. Following a reset - it now complains that it won't fit on main unit....but doesn't offer he option of even looking for an SD card. I give up. Garmin have asked me to call their support line and talk it through with their guys.....but that's going to be another hour which I don't have at the moment so it'll have to wait.

Anyone else experience this pain or is it just me !

i know you pain, but also have the answer. Like you I tried it all:
1. I updated garmin express- no success
2. I reset the Nav V- no success
3. I attempted to install the maps using a different computer - this time a mac rather than the pc- no success
4. Tried a different memory card- no success
5. Bought a new memory card- no success

The odd thing was I could see the memory card in the Nav v on the pc/mac. At this stage was resigned to having to live with old maps.

But then I used a different usb connecting cable between the Nav v and he pc/mac. All of a sudden problem solved :-) Memory card seen by Garmin express and I could install the maps :-)

Not sure why the original cable didn't work as otherwise it seemed good to me. But the different cable solved the problem for me so I would suggest worth a try.

Interesting. Someone did mention cable earlier in the post and I think I did try another cable briefly. I definitely used a different cable when I moved over to the PC......so I guess I've proved that one works - I'll give it a go this evening.....providing all the f*cking Apple updates have finished.....and which idiot at Sony decided that the PS4 update would be timed well for an Apple iOS launch day ?

Ive just tried updating my maps on the nav 5 via a macbook, and guess what. GE can't see the card even though its shown on the mac.

if you can download the maps to your mac, use mapinstall to send to the card.

Just spent the afternoon updating to 2017.20 and fitting a sho1to my daughters aria so a productive afternoon mind you the update took almost 3 hr to do

Fixed it for me

I've been having the same problem getting Garmin Express to recogonise the 32Gb memory card. I'm using a Mac Pro (Late 2013) running OS X Version 10.11.6 and Garmin Express 4.1.27.0. Having read this thread I took out the lead that was supplied with the Nav V rather than the lead that I had been using (which is for my TomTom Rider 400) and hey presto the SD card has now been recognised by Garmin Express and is currently uploading the updated maps to the memory card.

Thanks for all the advice from the folks on here and I hope that it works for you too Flipper_Man.

I've tried 6 cables this morning, including the one that worked on the Windows machine. I've plugged them in via a USB hub and direct into the back of the MacMini.......all failed.... :(

have you still got issues then Flipper man, and if so what now.

Exactly as previous posts. It prompts for either looking for an SD card or reducing number of maps, you select SD card.....and then it can't find the fecker....

UPDATE.

I've just removed the SD card, put it in a card reader and deleted all files off it then refitted it.
still no good.:blast

What is this map install you talk about ?

mapinstall is another piece of garmin software that allows you to install the map that is or should be on your pc/mac to your nav, google it and download it from garmins site.
