The supplying dealer will normally do it cheaper, AJ's would of been £100 if I'd bought it from them but as I saved £500 when I bought it by going elsewhere it was worth the extra £84 difference

This is the information i was given by the guy at the garage, the yearly service is different to the 6000 mile one and includes new brake fluids, but not much else as far as i know.If both services come approx together he will do this for around £185-£200. The dash light is timed to come on 1 month before the end of your first year of ownership.This guy in Cardiff is a good bloke and well known in the area for his knowledge on BMW. So if you do just over 6000 miles in the year you will still have to have 2 services!

Came as a bit of a shock to me to. Always thought the first service came with the bike, has done on all my other new bikes!

Just 'pulled the trigger' as the Yanks say, on a new GSA
Don't really want to trek the 200 miles to the supplying dealer for the first 600 mile service though
Just wondered what others have paid for this service when carried out at a non-supplying dealer??
My old GSA cost me £160 from non supplying dealer, Wollastons!

bought mine new at chester last year and was shocked the 1st service was not included so went to southport for a cheaper deal,would have been cheaper still if they had supplied the bike but oh well you live and learn,i know where i'll be buying my next new bike from

Whats the going rate for an annual service, I have only covered 3K. The dash has started stating service required.

That's not correct. If you clock up the 6000 miles in less than a year then you shouldn't need another service a couple of months later. The dealer should be able to reset the indicator at the 6000 service.
Wherever you choose to get your 600-mile service done, ask them for the remainder of the bevel box oil. Most dealers will charge you for a full litre (it comes in litre bottles and it's expensive!), but will only have used about a quarter of it. You can get the next three changes out of the same bottle.

the dealer should look after any and all bmw riders as tarry said chester on his door ,but the door will not be use again

I'm booked in for my GS's 1st service on Wed. the 14/4
I asked about a courtesy bike and the reply came back, oh it only takes about an hour.
If that's the case where is all the cost coming from?

AJ's first quote for my bike was £750 more then Williams, but I gave them the option to price match which they did
Williams bike would have been on a 59 plate though with a full two years warranty rather than a zero mileage pre-reg Feb 09 bike on a 58 plate with 15 months warranty, but I decided to support my local dealer.The 600 miles service cost me £100 yesterday, so now I can start caning it

I would hope your going to be there more than an hour as the engine needs to be stone cold for the first service...i was waiting for them when they arrived in the morning and didn't get my bike back til late afternoon(was given an f650 to razz around on in the meantime)

If it's a 2010 GS with the twin cam engine then the valves are not checked at the first service, so it shouldn't need the bike to be cold to carry out the service.
