ok may sound like a dumb question but hear me out.

when do you lot usually click it up into 6th? (i.e. mph ect)

this is the 1st bike i have had with 6 gears and im just wondering because i was always told that the top gear is more a holding gear (if you know what i mean)

cheers joe

(i await the mocking)

Just use it like any other gear go up the box hooking each gear as required and don't worry to much about speeds sometimes it will feel right at to select 6th at 60mph and there are times you could do with 3rd do what feels 'right' and soon you won't even think about it except when you look for 7 JJH

It depends of course! but 6th on a 1200 is most definitely not an overdrive, there is very useful power to be had. In 'normal' riding, whatever that is I usually change into 6th around 4,000 rpm unless I am 'going for it' and then I would let it rev to 7,000 ish, but one would be travelling a lot in excess of the speed limit by then !!! :-)

117 mph. And not one moment earlier as it's against the law :thumb2

I'm sure i've had my GSA up to 120mph in 5th.....:augie

So, if you want to go faster than 117/120mph...you'll need to nudge her into 6th gear...:thumb

dear o dear.......

FFS Please tell me this is a piss take.
Surely anyone driving/riding can feel what is going on in the various gears selected.
Or:
Are you one of those folks who press the button at pedestrian crossings when quite clearly there is no traffic approaching.

I ask with tears in me eyes.:blast

i was just wondering guys, as i said i have only had bikes with 5 gears and generally forget about 6th, took it for a run lastnight, first time i have actually done any proper speed on it got it up to about 120 mph in 5th (on a closed road of course :augie ) and it shot right up, but in 6th dropping to 80mph then going back up it seemed to lagg on the way up.

6th is just a spare for when 5th stops working:D
Please somebody close this thread. when the needle is as far to the right as it will go change up. repeat until you are in 6th gear, or possibly a hedge (No not that type of hedge.......) or hospital or sat in the back of one of those nice police car things.........

This is a slow thread..................not attracting much attention

It'll never make 4 pages:blast

If you're not sure then just stick to the first 5 until you gain more confidence. 6th gear should only be used by more experienced riders (it says so in the manual):comfort

We're on the way to four pages......:bounce1

It's a pale shadow of the OP's thread.... 'How to improve a GSA.... with zombie stickers'

Still, early in the year and already:

One, 'What oil?' thread

One, 'When should I engage sixth gear?' contribution

One, 'Should I take my GSA's panniers off, or is it uncool?' enquiry

... so 2012 could be a bumper year, worthy of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Olympiad :clap

I sincerely hope so, we love the 1200 section:clap
