6th gear was an overdrive on the 1150 but not on the 1200. A shame they changed it as it gave a nice relaxed ride on the motorway. You may be expecting too much if it feels gutless you are riding a bloated GSA gunship afterall

Interesting thread. I can never understand why anyone would want to put the 1200 section on ignore and miss out on this.

My R1100GS only has 5 gears so I suppose that I shouldn't even post an opinion on here. I remember when the 1150 with its fancy 6 speed box was launched and I took one out for a test ride in Jersey. Along with every other test rider, I failed to notice the new 6th gear as Jersey has a maximum spped limit of 40mph so it would never get used.

Interesting factoid: If you buy a second hand vehicle from Jersey or Guernsey, you may well find that the 6th gear has never ever been used.

this is the 1st thread i have had which might have 6 pages and im just wondering because i was always told that the top page is more a holding page (if you know what i mean)

I've not yet reached 6th gear, .. i'm only upto 3rd gear.... i've done my 600 miles in 1st and 600 miles in 2nd, and i've just started using 3rd... so i expect tobe fully run in and in 6th by summer this year.
