well actually its not sort off i have had a 950s before but am now thinking about getting a 990 ,the ins and outs have been discussed on here before i loved my 950s carb version allthough (mostly my fault) through lack of use the caebs gummed up which really pissed me off as ive never had that in my old bmw airhead which used to sit around for months on end no problem .
i know a lot of people who have had both prefer the carb version but i like fuel injection no pissing about .for me the hardest part is brand loyalty to bmw ive had about 13 or 17 ive lost count .
as a riders bike the ktm is great ,but the bmw (1150) allways gets the job done .......descions descions descions .....................................................the ktm does look good though

Wouldn't suit your riding style . What about a 1200 tenere they're a similar price and more "lazy" and comfortable. I had a 2011 990 fuelling wasn't perfect but better than the early bikes.

I think it depends on whether you want to ride to a destination in the comfort of your dependable 1150 or if you want to ride to your destination having a blast in sections arriving on a lighter more agile ,more modern exciting dependable 990?

I had a fairly late 990 (no fuelling issues) which I then changed to the 1190. Whilst the 1190 is a hell of a bike, I still miss that 990 to this day...

I just brought one from Magwa on hear and at the moment i love it, I have just put my new GSA I have on order for sale on here as the KTM does the same job but was £12k cheaper, i'm of to Italy on it next April/May can't wait.

You bought a peach!

People are always talking about fuelling issues, can someone who has experienced them be more specific. I have ridden at least 6 990's and am never sure what people mean.

'Some' people find the fueling a little aggressive i.e. the initial throttle input is very sensitive. I would like to add though (I can't wait for the flailing I'll get for this) that it's mostly GS riders that have the most problem adjusting to a slightly crisper fuel delivery as it's such a contrast to the lazy throttle action of that of a GS.

A 950 however ..... that's a different story altogether!

i amstill torn between a 950 and a 990 i just wanted a newer model ,ive had the 950s and it was great ,allthough as stated the carbs gummed up through lack of use ,allso i am not an aggresive rider so i doubt i would notice the difference

Thanks, I imagined it was some sort of miss fire!!! It's just seems to be something everyone says and others nod in agreement, and I just wonder what they mean....
Personally I think it's a dream of an engine... With amazing suspension. But I have an 1150 so what would I know.

Didn't some of the early FI KTMs suffer from a jerky throttle response which put some people off, improved over time with different throttle cams, maybe revised software etc? My 990 was a 2012 model, fuelling was very good.

Iv had two 990s to date,my first was an 07 i had a power commander and a throttle cam,it made it much better but you never really iron out the snatchy throttle you just learn to live with it,another thing that makes a big difference is chain tension to slack and the bikes a bitch,i also dropped a tooth on the front sprocket it puts the problem a little further up the speed area out of the walking pace zone where filtering is a pita....my second was an 06 i just had a throttle cam and the sprocket done and that was a peach...my brother had a 950 and was the best Adventure bike iv ridden,KTMs though have the build quality BMW should have had imho..

yes think you are right,my early ones suffered, the later ones had the revised crank less vibes and the fueling was better, more bhp....

KTM do do a remap for the Akros, and possibly now also for the surging although they deny its a problem, you can however do the 15minute reset which actually does help, just start the bike and just let it idle for 15 minutes, dont touch anything, then after fifteen minutes shut her off,ECU resets itself..
