A little help please

I think a lot of yous may have come across this problem in the passed and can point me in the right direction , coming back from the pyrenees last year i noticed that there was a slight oil drip coming from the hole in my final drive shown in picture , it was obviously all covered in dirt etc so i got he cloth in and gave it a good clean to see if i could see anything . to me it looks like its coming from the seal but i could be wrong ,
It didnt look like much of a leak but im not sure how much it could have lost ,(if anything )
Ive also tried taking a picture inside the shaft housing to see if i can see if anything is miss place or not seated correctly , any info would be appreciated

Looks like your seal is not seater properly in the RH pic.

If its only one or two drops I wouldn't worry, but if it continues then its worth popping the bevel box off for a quick look inside

Do you have to strip it down to get to it ?

The rubber boot you can see is NOT an oil seal. Its just a noot to cover the flexible joiny between the final drive and swing arm.

Oil in there can come from two sources,

Gearbox output seal leaks, oil runs down the hollow swing arm and leaks out.

OR, most likely...

Oil seal on input into the final drive..

If its the latter the seal is anly a few quid. It runs on a metal spacer, like a tube... These can corrode so change that as well. Think a seal and spacer is about £15 all in.

Drop down the final drive and take a look where the oil is..

For me I'd drain off the final drive oil, refil it to ensure there's oil in there. After all, oil stops dripping when there's none left to drip... i.e. it could be empty!
