Having just returned from the World of BMW tour of the Baltics I can honestly say that the 1200 is a real GS despite whatever the detractors on the main forum may think.
We covered 2500 miles of mixed roads including motorways, A roads, B road twisties and even dirt tracks and the GS just took it all in it's stride in much the same way as my previously owned 1100, 1150 and Adventure did on other European trips.
Fully laden with luggage we cruised all day at high speed and returned up to 240 miles per tank of fuel, so not much less than the larger tanked Adventure.
Also after 250+ miles per day,the bike was still comfortable, although my Touratech seat probably helped.
As far as the Baltics are concerned i'd recommend a visit soon as the people are very friendly and seem to be grasping their newly found independence with open arms.
Great trip, great people, great bike !!

let's see some pics then Fitzy...sounds like a great trip!

And I hope you're reading this Stella...:D

Sounds like a great time, it's a part of the world I've yet to visit - need to get my arse in gear.

At the risk of getting all 'self-congratulatory' about our 12's I did over 500 miles on mine yesterday popping down from Nottingham to Normandy and back for the day and, apart from it being a long day, I can not think of any bike I'd rather have done it on.

The bike coped superbly with high speed motorway thrashing, fast French 'A' roads, tiny windy lanes and 'green lane' tracks to get me to a secluded spot to eat my bread and cheese. I really have never owned such a perfect all round bike :)

It even had enough luggage capacity to enable me fill my wine rack with bottles of wine, my fridge with cheese and my freezer with croissants :D :D :D
