If the Honda paint is markedly better than the dire recent efforts of BMW and the AT inherits the legendary Honda reliability it should sell. Shame about the stupidly big can where a good pannier should be located and the need for chain maintenance but the bike looks good.

I bought a new @ in 1998 and sold it in 2010, having sold it then bought it back from the owner. I loved that bike as it took me touring all over Europe. I did have to get the seat modified drastically though.

A couple of years back I had the opportunity to compare it with my GS1100 and frankly the GS1100 was a far superior bike to ride in terms of handling, suspension and engine performance. Both bikes are now too old to compare with what's on offer today.

I recently bought an F800GS Adv having sold my R1200GS. Through my rose tinted specs the new @ looks great and harks back to the RD07 @ I had, but I wouldn't seek to replace the F800 just because the new @ has arrived. It's a Honda, so I bet it will be reliable and well built. I can't see a centre stand though.....

Honda have been bundling acropovic silencers along with a few other worthwhile extras so If they stick to the floor like the Crosstourers there may be good deals to be had.

A good chance of that as I don't think that they're going to live up to al the hype. Honda still in the wilderness years?

When you remember the build up for the VFR1200 and How disappointing and ordinary that turned out, you'd have thought they might have held back a bit on the game changer hyperbole.

The author of this small article I read doesn't like the 8GS much.....

Both use parallel-twin engines, but the Yamaha’s is pushed as close to the front wheel as possible, planting all its weight over the front end. That massive gap between the BMW’s wheel and motor means there just isn’t enough weight over its front wheel to instill much confidence or cornering performance, which is then exacerbated by the too high center of gravity and its asthmatic motor. On paper, this should be the Africa Twin’s closest rival, but in the real world, this bike just sucks. Did I mention the total lack of comfort?”

All I know is I would never buy an LC GS but the look of the AT does boat my float and who cares if it hasn't got 185 bhp at the rear wheel !! My 950 Super Enduro only has 95 ish bhp and it's the best bike I've ever owned.
Less can be more.I just hope the build quality is up to Honda's old standard and not like a modern BMW !
I'm looking forward to trying the DCT version and could see myself owning a white/red/blue version.

I was out on this DCT equipped Crosstourer last Weds. I've ridden the DCT before and it is a fabulous system. But, I've placed my order fitted with the good old manual clutch as I'm happy to be getting away from a lot of this high tech stuff.

Oh, Honda Australia have released their pricing. $16,999 which is £7967 plus OTR charges. Apparently that is slightly more than an F800GS.

Davy will disappointed......... it's 65 bhp down on his 1190 - that's a good 2/3's

I reckon there will be an initial 'fizz' with the AT, with early eager punters and then it'll be a typical Honda and not live up to the hype (think CT/VFR12) and then be a bit of a damp squib

JB, you seem to revel in the hope I'll be disappointed ?

The KTM was always going to be a hard act to follow, but I've always been able to bounce up and down the size/power ladder easily. And it's not always about the power. If I am disappointed, I'll change it for something else. Simples.

Not really - I did think it strange to sell a known good KTM bike, in the hope of a bike at the time, not yet seen or even now with a price announced

They're not going to give you any info BEFORE a uk dealer launch are they ?

Everyone is hyping this bike up, but Honda is v late to the party

BMW have been making a very similar bike since 2008 as have Triumph

Only thing unique to Honda is DCT
