After a testride I think the 1250 is still better than the 1300GS

The aluminum piece on the side in front of the tank kills the whole design...At least on the pictures !

Here is another good one why the 1300GS still has do a lot better to de-throne the old 1250 !
And yes I am a real person that loves BMW boxers but has not been too impressed lately...
R1400GS , M1400GS/R1400XR and R1400S could change that...LOL

Don't know if it's been said before but my first impression of the new GSA is that it looks like it's paving the way for electric. The tank and even the engine all look like battery compartments and an electric motor.

I think BMW needs to redo the aluminum piece in front of the tank that does not look right...Replace it with some mean looking nostrils / stainless steel mesh and the bike looks good...Of course with a 24 L right sized tank between the 1300GS lawn mover tank and the Adventurer supertanker too big and 7 mm more stroke 1400cc Boxer even better...LOL I think it was a clever move on BMWs side as they wont have to give discounts on the remaining 1250 Adventures...LOL I was thinking about getting myself one but then 11 year old bikes new...I rather wait another 4 for the 1400...And stay prepared to be disappointed...LOL

I am surprised that none of the 1300GS owners has clued us in if the new bike has at least one advantage over the 1250 being stable at speeds above 120 with bags and top case…Otherwise I still feel the same…The new engine despite having 15hp/nm more feels definitely not faster / feels lacking in gears 4-5-6 due to taller gearing and shorter stroke ?! Tank should have been 24 instead of 19 liters where you could stuff 21 liters in the 1250.Linked foot brake is a absolute no go and the exhaust sound is way too quiet…Forgot the missing tail light that just looks stupid but would be no deal breaker…And yes I would forgo the interior lighting for bags and topcase that actually stay on the bike that are announced for spring 2025…🤣Way to go BMW 👍

Almost 5 month later I got another chance to ride a 1300GS but this time with forged wheels and must say it was different in a good way…Quicker steering due to the lighter weight of the wheels and it felt more powerful than the 1250…BMW must have changed the mapping..The first 3 gears feel really powerful know but 4-5-6 could still use more power due to the taller gearing…Frame feels a little stiffer than the 1250 which is good while V/max with bags test must have to be postponed until spring ‘25 when supposedly bags that will stay on will be finally available ! As for the suspension itself it could be stiffer but maybe the sports suspension which I have not been able to try will take care of that.Engine as did not vibrate as much and got mechanically quieter so they are getting better.Exhaust noise itself does not sound good so it needs some work in this department as the tank should be 24 liters and the foot brake should be de-linked from the front as only the brake lever should apply brake forces to front & rear brake…As also the missing tail light might confuse a few drivers of cars that are not aware that blinkers can also be brake lights…Lets see if they get it right for 2026…Bigger but not as big as ADV tank . More power to pull the taller top gears . Delinked foot brake and a real taillight please 🙏 The aftermarket can get us better sound as the slip ons dont solve the problem caused by the Huge pre-muffler…Otherwise not a bad bike despite the cheaper/more feminine looks…🤣

What really surprises me that nobody has taken the 1300GS with top case and sidecases secured with BMW shipping container straps to the Vmax test to finally give the answer if it still wobbles at speeds above 120mph like a goats 🐐 dick…Cant to that in the land of the Fee as the bags got collected before the lawyer$((( got hold of them ! Where is Stick when you need him…🤣

Riding like a loony on his Ducati somewhere
Did he sell his 1300GS and why ? I thought it was the greatest bike ever made and so much better than the MS V4 according to him ! I dont think the new GS is a bad bike despite its more feminine looks but before I trade my 1250 BMW needs to address a few more issues not necessarily in alphabetical order….bigger but not as big as ADV tank as in 6 gallons or 24 liters…better sound like straight through open absorption pipe and quieter reflection premuffler with a button the rider can operate…de-link of foot brake so it only applies brake pressure to the rear wheel…real taillight that looks better and wont confuse the following traffic driving around in cages…And more power to pull the taller geared gears 4-5-6 harder than the 1250 GS…And of course top loading aluminum bags that dont need interior lighting but stay on 👍 Hopefully we dont have to wait for model year 2028 / mid cycle upgrade/refresh to be able to buy a real better than 1250 bike 🤣

Love this guy !
Fun aside what BMW needs to do to lure more 1250GS riders off their beloved bikes are a few things to make the new GS better than the prior model and ultimately make it worth to spend the additional money ;
- 23/24 liter tank because 19 liters is way too small while the 30 liter barrel of the ADV makes the bike too BIG
- De-ling the foot brake from the front brake !!!
- Give the engine more Stroke and let it make power all the way to 9000 rpm to give it the "unstoppable tractor like pull right off idle like the old 1250
had and another 15hp/NM to be able to pull the now taller gears 4-5-6 Harder than the 1250 !
As a bonus bring back a real taillight instead of the confusing/stupid looking Harley blinkers and give the bike real Boxersound like the old 1250 had because an exhaust that is quieter than the rattle from the valvetrain is just embarassing...Even the aftermarket has found no solution yet because the
big pre-muffler causes the problem apparently...
And a XR version for GS riders who only stay on tarmac with lower superbike handlebar , 17" wheels , 320 mm brake rotors and underseat exhaust would be a nice addition too.Hopefully soon !

ive taken my 1300 to 110mph with the touratech metal boxes on, on the autobahn. There was no weave. No desire to take it any quicker with two big lumps of metal hanging out of the sides, the recommended max with side luggage is something like 80 mph.

Because I am new to the forum and yet an avid reader, and because I have extensively ridden my mate Hadrian's 1300 (Yes, Hadrian, like the wall), I feel like I need to add a little more to the controversy. So to speak, because it is all just a matter of personal taste, in the end. Quick digression: some people ride Kawasaki Zs. Or Suzuki Bandits. To me, these are the worst possible motorcycles and yet they love them. Matter of taste...

So, the 1300. I know Boxerlust gets a lot of bashing here, mainly due to his long unpolished texts and strong opinions, but I must say I agree with most of his points regarding the 1300. I understand the disappointment. I reaaaally wanted to love the 1300 and buy one. But everytime I ride it, I find it bland. It just isn't fun like my 1250 is. My 1250 feels wild, compared to it. It pops, it bangs, it crackles... just the noise it makes with its 10 years old Akrapovic collected from an old LC is probably enough for me to not want to ride the 1300.

My mate Hadrian's 1300 is a Trophy with every option available. The one thing that struck me the most when I first rode it was the suspension. Whatever setting I choose, it is too soft. Softer than my 1250 RT which I already find too soft. And that is very strange, to me. Because BMW have chosen to make the 1300 snappier, "lighter", more efficient, sportier, etc... Soft suspensions are not compatible with sportier. Maybe that is because it is the Trophy version, to be honest. I haven't ridden the standard one.

Then, the gear box. It whines like my old 1150 RT. And I cannot stand gearbox whine. That is very personal, of course, but to me it matters a lot.

And lastly, the gearing. I wonder why BMW shortened 1st and 2nd gears and then lengthened 4th, 5th and 6th. They are engineers, and very good ones, and I am not. But the 1st and 2nd gears of the 1250 are already very short, in my opinion. Making them even shorter makes pulling from a stop quite strange, almost. I can see why longer high gears is good, though. My RT does 250 kmh when my GS only does 230 kmh, and this was achieved with just a longer final transmission. And it is nice! It is very nice on motorways for long hauls. But I cannot help feeling they could have done that on the 1300 without shortening 1st and 2nd. I know it helps in the dirt to have shorter first gears, but A: I do dirt with my 1250 and 1st and 2nd gears never felt too long, and B: as we all know, a GS rarely actually is used for enduro.

So, all in all, I am very disappointed. I wanted to love this series, but in its current condition, I really dislike it. I would rather have a Multistrada V4s (which the Hadrian I mentioned above ended up buying), and that is a lot for me to say, because I generally dislike Ducatis.

Now I feel like I will have to wait another 10 years for the next generation, hoping it will be to my liking. But I will be old, by then!

Anyway, I think the reason Boxerlust rants in such a passionate way about the 1300 is the same. Disappointment! Nobody goes to such an extent to talk about something they do not care about.

I sympathize, Boxerlust haha! Let's hope they will refine it in a way that suits your tastes and mine.

PS: Sorry the post is very long. It is just for the fun of debating. In no way am I declaring that I am right in any way, I am just describing my own feelings and personal tastes. Just like FIKA, I will be buying 1250s for now :)

Yeah... *hides in shame* I guess I'm not a subtle man when it comes to riding :D

But hey! I have Autobahns next to home! Come on, it's for science!
