Just changed the fuel filter bit of a faff but got there ok
The fuel filter is in the right way around (took the tank off again to check)
The only other pipes I disconnecetd were the overflow pipes
The throttle cables are all seated ok
The throttle cables seem ok all the way along
There is some fuel in it (now)
It will start and run for a few seconds roughly
Any ideas before I go back and take it all apart again and check everything again. :rob
Oh yes before someone posts that picture agin the throttle cables are seated correctly :thumb
Thanks
Paul

does the fuel pump prime? check the conecter block on r hand side to see if its loose

Have you connected the fuel pipes the correct way around?

If your not using opposed quick disconnects its easy to do.

Did you use new hose clips or refit the old ones. The FI runs at 40PSI and you can lose pressure easily through bad crimps.
The fact it starts means some pressure is there and the pump connecter is seated.
Are you sure you have fitted the pipes back on the fuel distributor the right way round?.
Oh yes,you can never post the throttle cable picture enough times.....:thumb

I used the old ones but there does not appear to be any leakage at all

Fuel pump primes

I did not remove them

Those pictures are very useful

I have taken the whole unit out again. The new filter is definitely fitted the right way.

When the bike starts it only runs for a few seconds and then dies as if no fuel
If I twist the throttle a few times before starting it runs a few seconds longer
However if I open the throttle when it is running it instantly dies
Everything is pointing at fuel being the problem

I am stumped now I will get some new clips on Monday change them all

Just to give the complete story though I do not believe any of these things could have any effect at all. I changed the air filter yesterday at a dealership and then rode it home. Today I changed the rear disc and pads and checked the final drive bearing.
Any suggestions gratefully received
Thanks for the suggestions so far

Somebody had similar symptoms when the rubber U shaped bit inside the tank split.

How much fuel have you put back into the tank? If you only put in a small amount by the time it has filled the lines, filter and pump there may not be enough to run the bike. I would chuck in at least half a gallon to be sure its not sucking up fumes.

Breather pipe?

I would have thought it would be very difficult to remove the unit without disconnecting more than the overflow pipes? Is the breather pipe still connected to the filler?

It was difficult the first time
The second time was easier
The third time was a doddle once I had put the float back inside:blast
I am now quite accomplished at doing it but my hands sore as I ran out of latex gloves on the third time

I am going to check if the fuel pipes have disconnected elsewhere as the engine just sounds as if it is running on one cylinder

Thanks for all the input though. It really is most appreciated as it is making me think:thumb

check throttle cable RHS...

Yep it is still there:thumb2

Now taken tank off and checked every electrical connection and hose joint
Even blown through the filter to make sure it is not blocked.
Put a lot more fuel in
Still the same.

Battery now flat so charging it

Tomorrow will be seeing if the fuel comes out of the jets and if spark actually getting to the plugs

After that I fear it will have to be off to a dealer for diagnostics

The throttle body cables can also become dislodged at the junction box. Check that the throttle body pulleys are against their stops.

If it starts and runs as you say, and then stalls when you open the throttle it shouldn't be the fuel lines wrongly connected.

that's usually a sign the throttle butterflies aren't opening together, and seeing as only one controls the fueling for both usually means the engine stalls.

Throttles body pulleys are right against the stops - they click as one.:thumb
No snags anywhere that I can see.

I have decided to move the fuel filter out of the tank as per Steptoes suggestion.

This is so I can run it without a filter - with the old filter and then then new filter.
However today managed to put the panel/cover on 60 degrees out of line. The outside pipes being too short was a big clue. :blast

Will have another go tomorrow.

It is running fine

The bike is now running just fine
I think I had put the plate which held the pump and filter back on 60 degrees out of line so the pump was not pumping any petrol as it was not reaching it.
Have also put the fuel filter outside of the tank
Thanks for everyone who helped with suggestions
