Hey folks, looking for some advice.

Do you recommend getting the BMW alarm fitted? Recently I have not bothered (non BMW) as in the distant past alarms have been in my opinion problematic and had issues with battery drain. With the value of this bike I am thinking it could be a good investment and potentially alarms should be so much better now?

If you think it is a good idea is it best to have the selling dealer fit it or get an aftermarket alarm and fit it myself?

Cheers

Don't bother. Use quality security products. I don't declare any security devices and my premium is low. I do have a Monimoto tracker and use Abus Granite lock @ a Roadlock caliper lock.
If they want it, they'll steal it.

Ditch the idea of an alarm and get a tracker instead.

Got an R1300GS in April. BMW registered bike with 305 miles on it

It had the BMW alarm and a datatool stealth 5 or something tracker already fitted from factory
1st time I have had either on a bike
Would I have opted for them, probably 'No'

Only time my bikes have been left for a time anywhere is when on trips. 25+ euro tours and numerous UK and Ireland trips and the butter has kept it safe

2 x R1250GS's, 2 x S1000XR's and Fireblades & GSXR100 etc have survived with alarmed disc lock and steering lock
Also very mindful of where I park them

Maybe I am just riding the odds over the years

The alarm does what it says, set to arm itself after 30 seconds, options to disabale through the TFT or the key
It makes quite a loud noise but the nub is if anyone takes any notice (My neighbour does when I forget when moving the bike off the driveway without disarming it :DD )

With the Datatool tracker I have opted for 2 years subs. The app is easy to use and accurately records what it does and where it is
Also easy to disable on the app when on a boat or having work done it
Can set up mobile alerts and a lot more but I have kept it as simple as I can

Bike is kept on an optimate should there be a larger than necessary drain when it is parked up for periods

If it has a Lithium battery might be the issue, I have data tool with lead acid battery but tend to keep it on BMW battery charger most of the time just be sure.

Lithium....been on the optimate since April
No problems at all
Started it yesterday after not using it since beginning of November, fired up just fine

Datatool app shows it at 14.1 just now
The app will also send a warning message alert should the battery drop, say when I am away and it's not being charged

It works until it doesn't

Thanks for all the replies.
Have decided to ditch the alarm idea and possibly get a tracker.
Will definitely bolster my physical security arsenal.
Cheers
