I read of many people who found the late correspondent insulting.

I was never able to see whether he was or not, because I couldn't understand a word of it.
Was it neccessary to write in slang?

As someone who enjoys being in Scotland, & revels in listenig to the local inflections, I found his written missives unintelligible.

Much worse than trying to understand Rab C.
(My son found a was of making Rab C absolutely brilliant. He puts on the subtitles & when one misses a joke, scan them)

Therefore, he may have been insulting, or interesting, but I gave up on them because of their sheer unintelligibilty.

Why shouldn't he write in a Scots dialect? He's a Scotsman posting in a Scots section read by other Scotsmen (and the occasional FEB:D).

If I went into, say, the North Eastern section and someone was writing in broad Geordie, I'd say I have two options - try and keep up or ignore it...not start asking why Geordies choose to write in their own dialect.

Nobody in the Scots section demands anyone to write in any given format - if Uinneag decides to write in his own style - then so what?

I have received a message through channels this morning that young Bacon the Pig wishes to pass on his good byes to Oonyack.....:D

A bit like Concorde, that went totally over my heid...

I think you've missed the point, Mike

I don't think so.

Johnny's is one of life's good guy's, the forum will be less without him, but I'm sure he'll be back after his stint as housemaid :D

Agreed. I said so in my first post. The fact that I don't like the attempt to turn the SS into a forum within a forum doesn't detract from my belief that in the main his presence here was beneficial.

If Johnny wished to leave, that's his prerogative. I don't for one minute think that he left just to see how many people will plead with him to come back. He's never struck me as someone who courted popularity. If that had been his intention, he'd probably have made an announcement himself instead of leaving it to one of his groupies.

first let me say that i'm sorry to hear that Johnny has left us for now, (I suspect he may return as he has in the past) IMO, I first met Johny and Tash when SWMBO and i met up with them and did the PINK Way round recce and later on the PINK Way round itself (for those who are unaware it was a charity event carried out by numerous member's of the Forum and raised a substantial amount of cash for Breast cancer Care)I found him to be a straight up guy spoke his mind honestly and bluntly (some people can't take THE TRUTH well) and would rather have there ego's stroked.

DAVID it comes as NO surprise to me that Johnny extended his offer of help to you in the situation you found yourself, I wouldnot be surprised if there were other's who have also had simialiar offer's (not nessiceraly cash)
I believe it's in his nature and beneath the HARD exterior that is often portrayed is a CARING HEART.

YES Johnny has offended a few on the forum as they him,his recent spat's with other's have at times been hard to fathom and may reveal a troubled soul, I hope and Pray that he can root out the problem sooner rather than later and return to this parish.

RONNO, G.C. when you next speak to the man himself please pass on my best wishe's to both He and Tash

Norrie

Mike, I know this is going off at a tangent, but seeing as you brought this up - would you explain?

I'm genuinely curious as to why you think this, as I cannot see this myself, I'm not just out to stir the poo.

Long live the king..:beerjug:

:thumb I agree and testimonies from others here, echo that and more. Johnny may appear to have gruff exterior, but there's a true caring and passionate braveheart who gives more, does more, for others than he ever gets back in return.

He is independent, in his actions and just maybe the rebel in him does not always toady the conventional line.

But, this place needs individuals or characters such as Johnny with a full-on personality as they contribute to our 'mojo' which somehow seems sadly lacking of late.

Johnny at his best :D

yep, the forum appears to be suffering from its popularity, which IMO is diluting it with lots of normal 'types' and less individuals and characters....:(

..might have to buy a KTM....:blast

Sorry to hear he's gone, he'll be missed

Shame some folk want to turn it into a wee slaggin match

As far as I know, he's (and a fair few of us) is Scottish. This is the Scottish section. We all even have the nerve to have a wee bit of an accent. So some write with an accent, a Scottish one, some don't.

And as for posting a note about his departure in the SS - well why not, the thread will last on the front page here a lot longer than in the pub and is more relevant here surely? A lot of the folk that would like to call him a mate have been to Scottish events so look in here from time to time.
You popped in for a wee look and saw the thread, as many have. If you're that upset (about either his departure of where Ronno posted it) why not post one of your own in the pub and let those that don't look in hear here the news?
I think there are a lot of pub goers who also lurk in here so they'll see it

Anyhow, back to the business in hand, cheers mate, happy miles :beerjug:
