PROVISIONAL ROUTES ONLY
I have done up some provisional routes.
Saturday
Out from the the train along the tried and tested roads to Cassel. This will take a bit over an hour. Have a coffee etc.
From Cassel, heading west on a longer route than usual to end up at the Batterie Todt museum at Cap Griz Nez. This will take a bit over three hours, if we do not stop. As we are bringing packed lunches I will sort out somewhere to stop or we can have it at the museum.
From the Batterie Todt back to the tunnel via Sangatte. This takes about 40 minutes.
For those going home on Saturday we will part company sometime between Sangatte and the train, to head down to St Omer. We might as well take the mototorway as the main road is straight and runs parallel.
Sunday
I suggest the Canadian war memorial etc at Vimy.
There are two alternatives, either of between 50 or 60 miles. One is direct (motorway) in about an hour or about two hours and a bit on the non-motorway route.
If we left the hotel at about 10:30 we would be there by about 13:00 on the longer route, I guess. Three hours or so looking around then a bash up the superslab and home.
There are other WW1 memorials and bits and bobs all over the area if people wanted something different. There are also the V1 / V2 bunkers near St Omer, too and Ypres (Ieper in the local lingo) is not too far away, if anyone has that in mind. I have marked all three as way points.
