Another WC test ride - Underwhelmed

I've got a test ride on Tuesday

I can't afford to upgrade but will always demo bikes as they come out.

Andres - I reckon your handling issues were summit with the tyres. (I'll take a pressure gauge with me ... :D).

I hope you're right :)

Looking forward to seeing what you think......have fun on Tuesday!

Evening Andres, I seem to be allowed in this section..
Nice honest report and quite concise..Did you manage to use rear brake or just your normal way of riding, front only.
Reason I ask is one of the rice rocket riders up here took Oceans out, said it settled well with a touch of rear in the fast twistys, took the slight headshake out....I don't know quite what he meant BUT he is a good quick rider..
I do wish folk wouldn't call them test rides,>>>

It's Toilet Training .....

Brakes are linked so it will use a touch of rear anyway.

So it has all these different modes but no tyre pressure sensor? :nenau

I do like the new exhaust and the adjustable screen though, but I hope all the extras don't stop people from changing them to make the bikes different, it's always nice to see everyones own ideas and bits they have found to make the bike individual.

Also I've got to ask (without starting a riot :eek) why are the ones who have bought the new GS insisting on calling it the "LC" when even BMW themselves call it the "WC"? Is it really just because a few people were taking the piss or is there another reason I'm missing?

It's far from being only the ones who have bought the 2013 R1200 GS who call it the LC, it's been overwhelmingly called like that all over the Internet since the launch and first reports. Probably because the LC is not WC in the sense that, apparently, it is not cooled by water but by a mix of water and glycol. Hence, a «liquid.»

Anyway, this will soon change, and the LC will be called simply a GS, like the GS DOHC of 2010 is now simply called a GS. Just the year of manufacturing will indicate the difference from previous models. I guess.

You're exactly right, think everyone needs to lighten up, take a little banter, enjoy their new bikes and look forward to the next upgrade so they can't take the piss too :thumb

So as a non-subscriber to the forum what sections are you barred from?

Leave it :)

I think Proff has blocked the 12 GS Hexhead section by his choice - but can see this section

Non subscribers cannot see the FS&W section & not pm

Nothing unusual at all, move along

Hey up yoof :)

I only ever use the front brake so yeah, no back brake. Mind you, I think you'll find that that's how most post 90's bikes can be ridden................ ;)

I did try out the back brake though and have to say it actually does something compared to the token gesture on my 1200 :)

.....................

Yup, it does, but being a ludite it took me ages to work through the menu and see the reading, and then it was in bar which means nothing to me, and anyway, I'd never trust the readout other than possibly as a way to see a gradual loss of pressure............... Jeez, I can smell the poo and wee already :blast ;)

Oh, and TBH, I don't think the pressures were wrong, I was just humouring Giles as he's quite new to this biking malarky yet likes to think he knows what he's talking about............... :thumb

The WC or LC or new GS looks much better in flesh than on paper, the engine sounds great, the design is sharp, the shiney metal surface on the end can looks cheap, way too many electric gizmos, my mate just bought one, I wish him and all the new owners to ride em in good health, but I`ll stick to my 2008 GSA.

And apparently there is a"Enduro Pro" mode, that needs to be manually unlocked, takes out all the ESP ABS, whatever. We will see the day of motorcycling where the insurance will not pay out, due to riding without electric helpers

considering the target demographic. i feel bmw would have done well to make the display font bigger. i couldn't read any of it bar the gear indicator :rob

or maybe they are after a younger market now?

I still think it's tyres! If it rolls in nicely on some corners but not on others and the common denominator is speed, that sounds like tyre profiles to me. :nenau
I reckon every bod who gets on a demo bike thrashes the tits off it in a straight line. I don't know how many miles your demo bike had on it, but I reckon those Tourances were probably well thrashed. maybe the back was a bit squared off ??

Same as evey other so called water cooled vehicle then!

Quite possible at 3,000 miles, I hadn't thought of that. It seemd fine in a series of fast 'flip flap' twisties, I only noticed it on very fast open sweepers. Any way, I'm in danger of making too big a thing over this as it wasn't a big deal, just something I noticed and which mine doesn't do.

Have fun tomorrow :)

Interesting comment. But what they may do first is vary the premium according to the number of electronic safety systems the bike has. But only when their actuaries will have computed enough stats. Which may take a while. :type

Right, the RDC serves only one purpose: to warn of a possible loss of pressure. Period. It's not meant to show the exact tire pressure, event if it's usually pretty close. And, of course, you know the TPM reading can be changed to psi by your dealer.

FFS!!
I make one post, a reasonable one in my opinion, knowing Andres and his riding style and the troll jumps in.
Now, the troll is on ignore BUT Johnny box of kleenex decides to quote the troll.... thereby defeating the ignore facility...
A pair of fucking twats.... end of.....

Maybe it's your specs, didn't you mention over the weekend you can no longer read your own instruments or sat nav ;)
With familiarisation I guess many of us know at glance by the direction of the needles what the dials are telling us :rob
