I am considering getting a basic WC GS to replace my RT, which was a replacement for an early 1200GS. I quite like the idea of the basic GS rather than the TE version but think the basic one has no riding modes so wondered what the basic one rides like, is it like the Dynamic mode or is it more like the road mode? I can only find the full TE versions to test ride and really liked the dynamic mode. I don't really want all the electronic bells and whistles and just wondered if anyone with a basic WC GS can tell me what it rides like compared to the TE versions modes.

Here's a fairly basic WC,ideal for airhead owners:

But this is probably more suitable for your discerning tosser :

It has these great modes which Russian truckers/Timolgra would love :

Hope that helps ?

I am sure Mark Hooton has a basic one, might be worth dropping him a PM. I do know he rather likes it.

Basic is best - no fancy modes and dodgy sussies on my bike:D, just ABS (but had no choice in that) and heated grips which are the only essential extra on a GS imho :D

.

I wouldn't trust anybody's opinion on what a bike rides like. We all have different views on what works and what doesn't. I reckon it'll be fine as all the old GS's, especially from the 1100 onwards handle fine for most people in most situations. If I was gonna go for a new LC, I'd go for a basic one too.
Just my useless interfering opinion mind :D
:thumb2

Just a hunch but if there's a rain, road and dynamic mode I'm fairly sure the basic bike would be set up similar to the road mode ;)

....that seems like a very smart decision but do you now find yourself as a stuck in the middle 'billy no mates'

Us ludites don't know how to engage you and you don't have modes so your LC owning peers see you as a ludite.

be strong my friend...

I have always gone for the standard models with the minimum possible electronic/software interference - (I am an Electronics Engineer of more than 40 years and have a good idea about how this stuff is put together and the software that controls it) - to my mind this stuff really is unnecessary on a motorcycle and detracts from the experience rather than adds to it. If you don't ride much, like toys and/or want your motorcycles to be ever more car like then that's fine with me, but I will always choose the simpler option if it is available.

So how does yours compare to the fandangly bollocks one.

If it is enduro mode throttle with dynamic mode power, than you may just have a perfect set up :thumb2

We'll have to meet up and you can have a go on mine, it would be interesting to see how they compare, I'd assume your's would be set in something like road mode..

Sadly I'm under the knife next Tuesday for a shoulder op so, will be off the bike for up to 6 weeks...:(

I was out on Saturday and tried Enduro mode (not pro) and what a ride... It's got to be the best... It feels free of traction control and you can lift the front wheel too! It only seems to allow soft and hard settings on the ESA but that's fine. I set mine to hard and the front end felt much more stable.

From what I read Flipfly, I think Enduro mode but with the dynamic throttle response would be the perfect setting for you, I'd like it for sure!!

i have a "basic" TC and never feel the need for ESA, traction control, tyre pressure monitors or any of the the other stuff that adds nothing but weight, complication, and from what i read on here - unreliability.

i wouldn't be buying a basic WC though unless it was in Dynamic mode.

I have no idea what the mode is, maybe it is 'standard' mode :D it is easy enough to ride and has full power so I don't care what mode it is :D - if it is wet I ride more carefully, if it is dry I can twist the throttle a bit faster and further, can't see the point of 'modes' other than you can show them on the LCD to your mates down the pub. :)

modern electronics....

I had to get BMW breakdown out yesterday, my 330D decided it wanted to keep opening and closing the windows, just 3 to 4mm but when it felt like it and with no partcular prefrence to which window... and that was when it was sat on the drive.

You couldnt lock it as the windows opening would set the alarm off...

disconnect the battery for 10 mins and then open and shut the roof so the system knew where all the stops are sorted it...

happy to have all this electrixery stuff in my waranty covered car but I like my bikes simple - the technician having a look at the bikes suggested, for the HP2, that I carry an HWE (or something like that for the key recognition) and a fuel pump resistor (again I think that's what he said)

I hadn't realised until now that the various riding modes were optional. What is the optional cost for adding the enduro, road, rain, dynamic modes then? And if you don't order the option, how do you actually know which map you're getting?

Without the ASC please, oh and an "A" after the "GS". Can forget the DRL's as well.
