Any of you Tossers ride a pushbike?

Couldn't quite get on with the new Dawes Mojave city/hybrid bike as the riding position was too upright and the handlebars too close to the seat for me. Managed to swap it today for a brand new Dawes Discovery which suits me better. At only £125 I reckon its a keeper...

Looks a nice little bike!
Where did you get it from for £125?

I've just got a new bike as my firm has relaunched their Ride to Work scheme. £580 for a £1000 bike was too tempting an offer to miss, despite already owning two mountain bikes and a road bike :P

I added £300 and bought myself this quick little number - boy, does it fly up the hills compared to my other roadbike (Ribble 7005 Audax), never mind my full suspension mountain bike :D

It's from a local cycling scheme in Sheffiekd called cycleboost. You pay £125 and get a bike, either a folding, step through or hybrid. You keep it 4 weeks and can then hand it back for a full refund if you dont want it. Or keep it.

I have bought two of these for my bikes.....http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/abus-sinus-plus-230-ush-d-lock-cable-set/rp-prod88967

Good lock with frame mount and steal cable....:thumb2

Top tip....Buy one of those underseat bags (Topeak make neat ones) and keep the key in there....You will then ALWAYS have the lock AND the key...;)

Cheaper now than when I bought mine last year......

Looks good and gets good reviews.

A question: do you need a seperate padlock for the cable? Or does it get locked together by passing through the D-lock?

A coupe of my mates have recently bought cyclecross bikes. I don't get it, off road ability but drop bars  the opposite of a hybrid. The second one belongs to a girl BTW

That green / black Merida looks very nice.

I'm sure there is a good reason for the existence of cyclo-cross bikes, but I just don't get it really.

Anyone on here into mtb'ing and wear prescription glasses ?

Am looking at getting some more suitable glasses with transitions - or something like that, rather than just using an old pair of specs and I don't fancy spending silly money on some ?

I've looked at some of the Oakleys - but they don't go up to my prescription & they can be bloody expensive.

Anyone got any recommendations ?

You can get a 9KG cross bike with disc brakes that takes up to 50MM tyres, or 23MM road tyres, compact chainset 50 34 and a rear cassette of 11 - 25 so its pretty well set up for the road too. I would have bought myself one recently but ended up with a 8KG road bike simply as it was 150 quid cheaper and I am counting the pennies the last few years.
Cross bikes make a lot of sense, a little bit easier geometry so comfy enough. And with carbon fibre frames stiffenough for most peoples needs, lets face it most of us are getting on a bit and 1 kG more in bike weight is nothing compared to the extra kilos most of us carry , probably on our bellies (of course I speak for my self) :-)

I ride a cross bike to work, better for decent tyre sized. Gonna flog it this month as no longer have a commute post May 1st. Bought a Cannondale disc cross bike as a replacement. Fitted 28mm road tyres and it rides great for £1k. Fit the cross tyres and I can do pretty much anything I can do on my MTB. Its a great do it all bike

I nearly went for a cyclocross bike just to give me the option of the canal towpath on the way home, but then it wouldn't be up to the proper off roading over the moors on the rest of the route as it gives my full suspension mountain bike a hammering.

I've got a Cannondale 29'er hard tail at the moment and really like it, but I keep thinking about a CycloCross bike, most of the riding I do is just at a weekend when I'm home and is a mix of about 10 miles of undulating path's, tow paths and 5 - 10 miles of road. I can see the logic in them having dropped bars for the road work, especially for someone of my tosser like proportions. May think of selling the Cannondale and pick up a Cyclocross as there seem to be some really good deals around at the moment.

Just my two Penith I've rode MTb,s since the late 80,s I bought a hard tail 29er coming up two years ago for the riding I now do mainly old railway lines and gentle trails been that I many ride by myself these days apart from Sunday's out with the lads the 29er is very very good I've got all the lads on them, but I bought a cx in November to keep the wear n tear off the MTb over winter and its tremendous can't get enough of it it flys takes me back to my youth on fully ridged bikes have a look at the cannonade,s and the ridley,s cracking bike,s fill ya boots you won't regret it:beerjug::thumby:

You've got it....you just pass the cable through the D lock. In the real world you don't use the cable that often....you can nearly always find somewhere to D lock the bike to, but it is nice to have it....:)
