Any of you Tossers ride a pushbike?

Thoughts?

really?

since when were they made compulsory, does that means if a pedestrian gets run over on a road that your statement is the same about them?

If they're there & you're not using them I have no sympathy at all if the traffic 'gets in your way'.
And yes, if the pedestrian is walking along the road rather than using the pavement I would have no sympathy at all if they got clobbered by a car.
Quite why any pedestrian would use the road rather than the pavement is, however, as big a mystery to me as why a cyclist would use the road when there is a cycle path.

I completely agree. Our local government has spent millions of dollars building an expansive network of cycle paths, yet I encounter very few cyclists on them. The vast majority, for whatever reason, choose to battle it out with motorized traffic on public roads. And then they have the temerity to complain about 'hostility' from drivers when they're holding up traffic for miles.

"Miles", eh? Or do you mean a couple of hundred yards and 10 seconds?;)

Can't use my lavish, single, local cycle path as the pedestrians are ignoring the big white pictures of bikes painted on the ground. I got stuck behind a family of three with a pram for MILES today.........:thumb Fucking pedestrians are a waste of oxygen, ignoring signs, not using the proper path and always complaining about hostility from cyclists.

Oh, hang on, sorry......it was about 8 seconds. :blast

No, I meant miles. I live in an area which is very popular with cyclists. When they're out in large numbers - usually on weekends - the roads become almost impassible to motorized traffic. The problem isn't individual cyclists, but large groups of them riding several abreast in parade formation. It's illegal for cyclists to block motorized traffic in this manner, but it's a law the police haven't shown the slightest interest in enforcing, so cyclists violate it with impunity.

Fair point. My riding is normally with a group of three others and we go out of our way to go back to single file when there's traffic about. We spread out when we're on the steep bits giving space for cars to pass us one or two at a time rather than having to pass a line of four. Although that's probably really 'cos I'm a bit lardy and naturally fall to the back.

We rarely get any aggro from car drivers. Whilst cyclists have just as much of a right to be on the road much of it is about give and take. Apart from the odd knob that is, but knobness is not the sole preserve of car drivers.:D

Pointless bit of footage. Two morons meet. Cyclist obviously gobbed off and then didn't have the balls to back it up.

I've just read all of this thread and quite inspirational I've found it as well.

Unsure yet whether I'll join the gang as it's been many many many years and I feel there's a bit of learning to be done first to understand all these new words - like cubes and hybrids, SPDs, gatorskins and there's new materials now being used like aluminium and carbon.

And whatever happened to Mafac brakes ?

Couple of serious questions if I may please ?
Is there a website that may explain all these new, to me, bike words ?
A beginners guide sort of thing.
I have tried googling but with little success.
I did have a quick scan at eBay, just out of interest you understand, and came across some very pretty racers from the 80's.
Would something like this be a good idea or has technology passed them by now and would spares for these old bikes still be available ?

Thanks very much.

Celebrated st paddys day with a nice club run - 105 miles @ 17mph avg with coffee stop and over the glorious Mourne Mountains :thumb2

Just remember 'Cube' & 'Carbon' - add in 'Triple' & you'll not go far wrong. :thumb2

Yip, you can surely pay as much as you want. If you're not bothered about being fashionable you can get some relative bargains by buying last year's model, or even earlier versions where possible.
If you buy now you're possibly buying at the worst time - a lot of last years 'bargains' will be gone & the new season is about to start for fair weather cyclists (like me). The best time to buy, IMO, is July/August when 'next year's' models will already have been announced & possibly even started to be released into the shops & shops will be looking to move on any of the current year's bikes.

Could be worth buying a cycling magazine & having a look at what's being advertised & then start ringing around to see who has what in your size/spec requirements.

But do remember Cube, carbon, triple. :thumb

Don`t be messing about with old bikes as the components and quality have come on so much in these years :D Decide what you want to use it for and go from there :D

FYI I would avoid the triple chainring as it's a bit gay - just sayin like :aidan
