Any of you Tossers ride a pushbike?

Did another 24 miles, all offroad on Thursday lunchtime. I couldn't have seen more than 5 other cyclists in 2 hours.:clap

I need some proper offroad knobbly tyres, as mine are too road orientated, so if anyone has any recommendations, let me know.:thumb

Would any of you Tossers like to recommend me a reasonably priced puncture protected tyre? Doing 100 miles a week now so it's gonna happen sooner or later.

700 x 23, both foldable and non-foldable options required.

I'm running with a set of Gatorskins on my road bike. All the locals swear by them, and I've never heard a report of anyone having a flat with one. I've been told many times that Gatorskins are 'heavy' and 'slow rolling' compared to racing tires, but in back to back tests, my best time on the R4 racing tires was actually 10 seconds slower than my record on the Gatorskins. Whatever the differences in performance are, it seems to be negligible in real world riding conditions.

Well, you have now. I ride Gatorskins and find them pretty good for their puncture resistance but they aren't bombproof. In the course of the 5,000+ miles I rode in 2013 I must have had 4 or 5 punctures. All regular punctures not snakebites and caused mainly by flints. Still prety good I reckon although caution is needed when cornering in the wet.

Fortunately you rarely have wet roads in the UK. :D

Today I did the Marin trail in North Wales again, and I think it is back to motorcycling tomorrow as it is far safer.
OK the bicycle accidents are small ones, but I am having them every week, and as I get better at riding they simply hurt more as I am going faster.:blast

Looks like I'll give the Gatorskins a try. I think its fair to say that the performance differential won't be noticeable over my own, ahem, race distances.......

Thanks for the steer chaps.

Chain reaction for best prices and don't forget to buy folding

Bought myself a hybrid today to add to the growing fleet, it's sole purpose is to transport me and the boy along the canal to the pub.

Edit.

I'd been painting hence the scruffs and hats will be worn on our first adventure.:thumb2

My legs have finally stopped hurting from Sunday's ride. I have a serious issue with other riders riding 'drafting' me without even announcing their presence. If I had to swerve or brake unexpectedly, it would almost certainly result in a collision. It happened again on Sunday, so I decided to take evasive action by accelerating hard and putting a considerable distance between us. Some time went by, but then I noticed that he was on my rear wheel again. Once again I picked up the pace to about 30 mph and put a sizable gap between us, which he managed to close in time. By then I'd gotten a good look at him. Judging by his youth, total absence of body fat, skeletal upper body and muscular thighs, he must have been one of the local club racers. No real hope of outrunning him then. :( We finally parted company when he took a hard left down a side street. I was in a state of complete exhaustion by the time I reached my car, but my Strava upload confirmed that I'd beaten three of my previous speed records. :clap

I just slow down until they get sick and pass or give them a tow for a while then turn round and announce it`s their turn at the front :D

When I was preparing for my first sportive, the Boris 100, I was advised to find a nice piece of arse and then just hang on to it. It worked for me.

Maybe the yoof fancied yours ....?

Mine's a TACX - Italian make I think and I got mine at DecathLon but they're available on Amazon. About £130 without any electronic gizmos but variable resistance. Works a treat, very pleased with it.

Make sure you get a front wheel holder and mat to reduce vibration and catch the sweat. :D Mine were bundled.

Mine's a TACX too. Bar/gym towels draped over the crossbar & handlebars do just as well as a sweat catcher & I've never bothered with a front wheel mat. My TT came with the front wheel holder.

You won't regret it. Best thing I've bought in a very, very long time (apart from the bike obvs.).

If you're minted and/or very serious then get a Wattbike. You can have hours of fun training with power (rather than heart rate), you can also perfect your pedalling technique and you don't have to faff about putting your bike into it, getting a turbo tyre etc.

If you're not so minted then Cycleops fluid and Tacx are good brands to look at.
