Any of you Tossers ride a pushbike?

You can get a 9KG cross bike with disc brakes that takes up to 50MM tyres, or 23MM road tyres, compact chainset 50 34 and a rear cassette of 11 - 25 so its pretty well set up for the road too. I would have bought myself one recently but ended up with a 8KG road bike simply as it was 150 quid cheaper and I am counting the pennies the last few years.
Cross bikes make a lot of sense, a little bit easier geometry so comfy enough. And with carbon fibre frames stiff enough for most peoples needs, lets face it most of us are getting on a bit and 1 kG more in bike weight is nothing compared to the extra kilos most of us carry , probably on our bellies (of course I speak for my self) :-)

Put that way - they do make sense.

Without any front suspension travel, you can surely only do light trail work ?

Some of the routes I go through the front suspension is at full travel and the mtb bike gets a hammering, not sure I would even contemplate it on a cyclo-cross.

Will get a try on one regardless :thumb

1st Sportive of the season for me tomorrow & I'm very nervous about it. No idea why as this will be my 4th year of doing it & I've not failed yet, I've lost a stone of winter fat & appear to be as 'Turbo' fit as I ever have been. :nenau

2nd one next week & I am really sweating about this one.

Anyone else got any planned? I know Greg's shaving all of his body hair in preparation for the summer.

Although the Yorkshire event will be more hilly, I reckon that if you can comfortably do 104 miles in Rutland then 88 miles in Yorkshire should be ok.

Good luck:thumby:

Thanx. As I understand it Rutland has 5,000 feet of climing in 104 miles, TDY has 10,000 in 89 miles.
It seemed like a good idea when I booked it.

im doing the coast to coast May 5th "the way of the roses" 2 days riding 180 mls should be fun :blast
did it "wainwrights way" last year so it should be a breeze:D

I'm doing the Warwickshire-100 on Sunday - just about to get the clippers out ....

We got into leisure cycling in Spain last January and love it.
Typical run is every second day 50 to 100km mostly flat Wild Western Way, I do like moderate hills as well.
The "Spanish" bikes, my Btwin and Mary's delicious Giant are perfect and the day out is effortless and not the slightest bit tiring.
I decided to get a flash bike this week and all the shops told me i needed a road bike, i took a few for a decent spin and found it fast but not as enjoyable.
A bit like riding an R6 compared to the GSA.
I finally settled on a Boardman Pro from Halfords, it was a display model so a good deal was made.
A superb bike and on the run home from the shop it was fast but i was more tired on this than on the Btwin.
The acceleration on the Pro is stunning.
The Btwin lopes along in a high gear and slow pedal turning, its like a comfy arm chair compared to the pro.
Plan now is:
Replicate the Pro riding geometry to match the Btwin, for this i will get a handlebar stem riser.
Upgrade the gears and shifter of the Btwin, I have been browsing ebay.
If anyone has any bits lying around let me know.
These 2 bikes set up to my style will do me nicely.

I've been commuting to work 3-4 times a week on my Trek full carbon road bike recently. Completing around 120Kms a week but it is all flat with no hills. So i thought i'd make it a little more challenging and ordered a Mango custom fixie last weekend. Should be with me next week and i'll have to get used to riding a bike with no gears and eventually a fixed wheel. It has a flip flop hub with a fixed gear on one side and a coaster on the other.. Looking forward to the simplicity of riding it..

Just completed the Wiggle Mtb Ups And Downs in Dorking this morning, I only did the standard at 22 miles, 2400 feet climbed - which was a good call as I'm feeling completely bloody knackered now.

God knows how hard the Epic would have been to do, but will be upping the miles and trials work to do it next year.

But brilliant fun, would do it again in a heartbeat.

But I might wait until my legs have stopped feeling like lead. :rob

Feck that!

I did the Warwickshire 100 yesterday (69 mile course) and finished with 26th best time out of 155 finishers. My skiing buddy (even older than me!) finished with 5th best time! :clap

I might have done better if I hadn't had a semi-bonk halfway round.

:(

An excellent effort by both I would say. :thumb2

I did the 105 mile Rutland Sportive on Saturday. It's the 4th year I've done it & I've thoroughly enjoyed the previous 3 but this year it was a miserable experience & I have no idea why, I just didn't enjoy it at all. In fact I could quite happily have packed in at any point in the 1st 55 miles.

Good man, a fine effort. I presume your mate simply shaved his legs to a higher standard than you managed ;)

Did this with a couple of mates last year.

That was a bit brutal at times on a few of the Cols, but it's getting back on the saddle on the morning of day 3 and lowering your bruised sit bones down onto that skinny little instrument of torture that's possibly the most difficult to overcome!
