My original plan was to have a Bluetooth dongle transmitter at the Zumo end (to get stereo music) and another Bluetooth receiver attached to my ear monitors.

So I tried EarBuds which I found produced fantastic sound but were difficult to keep in place when putting on my helmet.

I then considered going down the Ultimate Ears route but then I started adding up the cost of all of the kit and the fact that I would be constantly charging batteries.

I finally got fed up with the whole idea, saw that Autocom dealers were doing blinding deals and went along this afternoon to Infinity in Portsmouth.

There I picked up a Kit 200 Active Duo for £100 and the great manager fitted the whole shebang to my Schuberth C3 for nothing. Good man :thumb

I decided to use the 9V battery option in the short term to work out exactly how I wanted to use the system before hard-wiring it into the GSA.

The only audio cable that Infinity had available was the Autocom 1293 at £5 and as this is fitted with 3.5mm plugs at either end, I bought it.

I rushed home, put the battery into the Autocom, fitted the Zumo to the bike, plugged the helmet into the Autocom and fitted the audio cable between the devices.

So far so good.

Then I powered up the Zumo and, after the boot up, hit the audio play button. Yup, music allright, but at half the volume of the EarBud ear monitors, even with all the volumes maxed.

I have now read the thread on the hidden Zumo Master Volume and rushed into the garage to see what it was set at. Ah good, only halfway....so I have set it at maximum.

I have not had enough time to retest the volume but, before I do, I just wanted to see if part of the problem might be the 1293 cable.

Cheers

All that to tell us that you haven't yet rechecked it?

A fascinating look into your life today.

We thank you.

A day in the life of...........

Yup...........how we sad old gits can live when we let our hair (?) down, eh. :aidan

Actually, I wanted to check the Autocom to Zumo audio cable spec before plugging it all in again, just in case the cable I bought is doing summit it shouldn't.

The Autocom dealer looked up the right cable for the 550 but he only had the 1293 in stock which is not listed under Zumo connectivity. That said, it obviously works but I just wondered how critical the right one is.

If you get a lot of hiss through the system, then come to us, as the 1293 is not recommnded for bike powered GPS's.

The 1293 is a 3.5mm mono to 3.5mm stereo, 2 metre lead, so your music will only be mono. The lead you really want, if you want stereo music, is the 1307 (1.5m) or the 1308 (2m), stereo music leads, these cost £3.00 and £4.00 respectively.

Whilst you are using your Autocom off a 9 volt battery you shouldn't have any issues with noise generated from Ground Loop Interference (since the Zumo and the Autocom are using two independent power sources). However, if at a later date, you decided to run it off the bike power you may get some noise depending on where you pick your power up from and where the Autocom is located. You can reduce, or even eliminate, this type of interference by taking the power for both the Zumo and Autocom from the same point. If you still get noise you will need to use an isolated music lead, 1314, at £28.00.

Success

Tanks TREBOR for the advice. I went and bought the right cable this morning and tried the set-up with the newly tweaked ZUMO system volume settings.

Fantastic sound although I will reserve final judgement about external noise affecting the listening until my next outing.

Cheers all for the help.

I always wear a silk balaclava and have found it helps a great deal with this problem, as the helmet cannot 'catch' on the ear bud (shure in my case) and drag them out. just glides over them.

Sorry I seemed to off missed thread as I normally check the bike comms section not as much on the GPS side but from the sounds of it you are fully sorted. Just make sure you are running the Zumo into the AUX2 socket to be safe as the other connections as in the AUX1 and 3 would not be suitable due to the system needing 4 pole jack plugs.

Where exactly is the hidden volume setting on the zumo please?

I'll guess from the original post that on the bottom left of the Zumo there's a button which if you look at it, looks something like a speaker. Press it and then you can toggle the general volume up / down. Which is different to setting the nav / mp3 volumes seperately.
