Hmm, fitted my Autocom Active 7 Smart and plugged my Nokia 6310i in via the little connector and..voila, phone on the move.

Well, almost! Everything went well, dialled OK and I heard the keypad tones, ringing tone heard, call answered, said "Hello", call died. No, it wasn't them hanging up before someone says it ;) .

I redialled and same again, the call goes through but is dropped within a second of being established. Tried it on another number, same thing. Bugger!

'Phoned Autocom today 'cos it wasn't making sense. "Oh", they say, "there's a software issue with that particular phone when used with our unit." " Is there a fix?", I ask. "Sort of", they say.

Here's the deal: If your Nokia 6310i handset volume is set anywhere within the top three bars, the 'phone will disconnect on establishing the call. The "fix" is to set the volume below the top three bars and everything will be OK. I've not tested this yet but they assure me it'll work.

Autocom, as usual, very helpful and happy to help.

another way

My 6310i was doing exactly the same as yours so I tried the missus's and hers didn't (both had volume up full) so I returned to the Vodaphone shop (only 2 months old) and told them phone was faulty. They swapped it and new one is OK even with volume up to full - which I didn't know about anyway

Mucky Helmet,
Re: Call dropping on connect.
The reason for this is to stop your ears being damaged if the phone volume is set on the higher settings. (their worried about being sued I suspect). It's not a problem as the volume is usually loud enough through the earpiece. Just remember to alter the setting before you set off.

And the reason both options worked respectively - Sherpa's original handset and Mucky Helmet's handset had an old firmware installed and the work-around is as Autocom stated.

Mrs Sherpa's handset and Sherpa's replacement had the later firmware installed in which Nokia have included a patch to deal with the problem.

I thank you

Damn firmware! The 'phone was only replaced a month ago.

Oh well, maybe I need to "run over" it and get a new one.

Thanks for comments.
