Hi Guys,

Just about to change my old GS1200 for a spanking new GS 1200 SE.:JB:JB

I have my autocom wired into the back of the power socket on my old one. SOmetimes the autocom would switch off for a few minutes then come on for 30 seconds and then switch off again. I would have to stop the bike and restart it. I've been told that is is because of the wiring system on the 1200's.

Just wondered if any of you have experienced this problem and if so how do you wire your autocom onto the bike. I would like to get rid of this on the new machine.

Please bear in mind I am a complete numpty at anything mechanical or electrical and wiring it into the back of the socket was a major task for me so try and keep the advice as simple as possible,

Thanks in advance

Cheers

when i got my 06 gs the bm mech told me it was no good using the power plug as it shuts down if there is little to no current drain and autocomm`s use very little. bmer then did an update so the power plug stayed on when the bike was on but the mech said if you haven`t had this update and what they did before this, was they took a live feed from the rear light and just ground the neg. the cerrent drain was that small that it didn`t upset the canbus. mine`s still wired in that way and i had no probs with it.:)

As mentioned your bike obviously hadn't had the software update for the accessory socket that eliminated the problem you mention.

You'll have no issues on the new bike as my 08 was wired the same and worked perfectly

My SE too

BumW do a splitter wire that you can plug into the back of the powersocket under the seat. I've got my Autocom wired into that without problems.

there's a thread somewhere in the communications section, a quick search should sort you out on that (as I can't remember the BMW part number).

Edit: try here: http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177368&page=4&highlight=splitter+cable

I did the same hook up on my new bike also an SE. I like that fact that the wiring is undamaged.

Regards,

Path.
