14th June
I make a late start. Jorge & Sheila depart to do that ‘work’ thing, that seems to afflict so many of the people I meet
I email my mate Paul in the UK to send my ‘spare’ Daytona boots over, as my left boot is no longer waterproof. I rang the Motorcycle Clothing Centre in Wymondham, Norfolk, and John agreed to get them repaired or replaced, as appropriate, without a question (I bought them in October). I’ll wait for my spares to arrive, then surface mail them back – I’ll have John deliver them to Paul.
I pack the bike and I’m on the road for 1020.
I head north west towards Astoria, at the top left hand corner of Oregon. It’s my plan to ride the part of the Pacific Coast Highway I missed last time I was here, then stay at Newport, where I know I can get a good, clean, cheap, room with Internet access.
Once again, it’s been raining and is overcast, but I manage to dodge the showers as I ride the very pleasant twisty 202, through woodland…
…and lush pastures, filled with wild flowers…
I stop for brunch as Birkenfeld…
…and then push on. I notice a gateway on the left…
…the counterweights are V8 engines!
I’m soon on Route 101, the northern part of the Pacific Coast Highway…
..where, I’m relieved to see, I’m safe…
I slowly make my way down the PCH. The surf is high and the views, as ever, are spectacular…
…I arrive in Newport at about 1700. I’m knackered, having slept little last night, so write up my last 3 days journal & plan an early night.
