Who is "there chap"?

You can buy Corbins singly, retail for the front is £299 when I checked this week with a potential 6 to 8 week delivery.

Just thought you might like to know that the LWR lot AND Kevin and Julia Sanders both used Airhawks for their trips (or at last that is what Airhawk have said).

We are using them for the Pink Way Challenge - I'll let you know what results they give us -- me with my ample bottom  and my husband with his tighter one :D We're doing a dry run :moped: next weekend of Region 8 - so if you can wait til then :nenau -- I'll let you know. :clap

Tara for now

Thanks for that, ill look forward to your results. :thumb

The sore bum reminded me of my mum all those years ago saying to me and my twin brother "Ill smack your bum so hard, you wont be able to sit down for a week! ! :D

And in what respect does he mean by that ? Personally, I'm considering a Sargent, but front only as there doesn't seem to be a requirement to buy both seats from them.

You can buy Corbins singly, but you can't fit the standard rear seat with a front Corbin . ;)

My seats went in the post this week and should be back middle of next week.

been there - done that - prepare to be disappointed - unless you're lucky.

thats the difference - sargent / corbin - 90% success rate

others - 65% success rate.

( findings based on complete subjectivity and would not stand up in court :))

Was not aware of that, as I ride 2 up regularly on long distances that has a serious implication as front and rear Corbins are near £600

I used the search facility on the site to look at previous posts on various seat options and the majority of those who had gone with having their seats reworked by Melvyn were happy with the results, but it's fair to say that not everyone will find it too their liking ( same goes with Corbin or Sargent).

In my own case I decided to go with Melvyn as I had seen examples of his products first hand, the majority of feedback was positive and the fact front and rear seats remodelled with gel pads were less than the cost of a single seat from Sargent or Corbin.

I've used Corbin previously on another bike and loved it, but £600 is just too much from my budget.

Will give an honest opinion of first impressions next week and a follow up for the record after the run down to Andover for the Hogroast, should be a good test of how comfortable they are.

How to stay comfy on the bike. Ride hard and move about the bike. Stretch legs, take weight on pegs pivot your pelvis stretch your back. Stretch arms wriggle fingers pivot neck etc at traffic lights etc and you will stay comfy. You'll only get sore/stiff if you sit like a sack of spuds. Having said that the r1150gs is the most comfy bike I've had since my CB900F2C circa. :D Also if you wriggle like I do when your carrying a pillion you eventually get a dig in the ribs :(

Thats why i bought my pair of Corbins for £300. Seemed expensive if they didn't work for me. But i'd always sell them for the same money.

Different if having to buy them new, and they aren't comfortable for you.

Advice from a hardbutt rally rider -
Stand on the pegs, and grip the tank with your knees for 10 seconds every 10 miles. Don't wait till your arse/legs are aching, do it from the start of the ride. .

Undo the staples at the front of the pillion seat, cut some of the plastic base off and restaple. sorted. :thumb

Best Seat

Hi,

I have got the Sergeant seat system from the states, its expensive but I think its a lot better than the standard 1200GS set up. The seats are firmer & the passenger unit has underseat storage. I normally suffer from a numb arse but this set up seems to delay the onset quite a lot.

Hope this helps

chris

I borrowed a Corbin for a couple of weeks and it was brilliant. The only problem is that it was wider and firmer than the standard seat and I couldn't actually touch the floor. Bought a Melvyn H. but didn't find it any significant better than standard. I got the MH modified to put in extra foam which made it better but too high again (doh!)

Now I use a standard seat and an Airhawk. Not perfect but much better than standard and the MH seat and it's reasonably cheap. I also use it on my office chair and in the car on long journeys so I've got my money's worth :D

Cheers

Dick

at my local petshop & stables they had a horse saddle saver £6:99 that will fit the seat just need to fit some side 2 side restraints or pet bed £7:25 for a saddle size sheep skin

That's pretty much what "their chap" said... :D

Hi Jon,

They work as a pair.If you use one of our seats with stock seat it
will leave a big gap between the two.

Thanks in advance,
Theron

I've just bought a used Corbin, and unfortunately it's not for me.

It is a lot more comfortable than standard, but it sits me too far back, which gives me a sore back and arms, but no numb bum, so it means having to buy bar risers. And it was very expensive, even used.

The way I'm going now is this. There's an upholsterer in Scarborough who does motorbike seats. He's alreday put some harder foam underneath the standard foam, and re-shaped it so it doesn't put pressure on your balls  . He then re-covered it with the standard cover, and said give it a long try over the weekend, if it's no good bring it back and we'll have another go......all for the pricely some of £10.

Anyway it wasn't any better, so I've just bought a gel pad and some memory foam off ebay from here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4645608483&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT and I'm getting him to put these on top of the standard foam and to re-shape the seat.

Total cost about £55 !! :thumb If it works, which I'm hoping it does, then the Corbin will be up for sale.

I've just done 1500 miles in three days on my Corbin seat on the GSA and found exactly the same thing. It was great on the motorway but less fun round the twisties. I put it down to being shorter of leg and longer of back than most people of 6 foot 2 inches, but maybe it's just the way the seat is madep. Or maybe I'm the same size and shape as Andy.

Absolutely no arse ache though. And a pillion will love it.

Put the original seat back today and I'll be putting the Corbin in "For Sale and Wanted" when I get a chance.

I'll keep the bar risers on I think.
