Anyone Know the best place to get a set of 1150 Adventure Engine Bars?
I have the Wunderlich ones and I don't like them much. The fit is not good and they touch of the tank.

The OEM ...

... ones are prone to cracking around the welded mounts, do a search and some reading before buying them. St Eptoe has a nice line in cylinder head guard though :augie

I know maddocks in Bray had a set at a rock bottom price, might be worth giving them a call

That might be worth a try. I know they had a set of SW Motec ones going cheep.

I got a price from Charles Hurst in Belfast at £558.64 plus VAT.
Joe Duffy's in Dublin were talking around €1000!!!

I think the bottom mountings are different - the Adv has a different bash plate.

They also have a bar that goes from the top of the front bar towards the rear and a further bar then attaches to the engine case near the rear sub-frame mounting (it's this mount that sometimes fractures).

Thats correct.
So if you have a standard GS you have to change the sump plate, and the sump plate mountings front and rear.

Have fun.

If thats the current design for crash bars.. thank god I was never tempted!! Thats an accident waiting to become a disaster!! I've heard of crashbars that can cause a bike to flip.. and now having seen that picture I can fully undestand why/how this can happen!!

But Carool nash will pick up the bill.

My standard engine bars have saved me from twice ebing side swiped by cars changing lanes (no, I wasn't filtering).
1. DCW and on inside lane, bumbling along in 2nd with the flow (not wide enough for filtering) and car in lane 2 decides to dash up th einside lane from right beside me. She didn't look and just swung straight into me as I was almost level with the driver. Result - i wobbled and kept the bike up on the grass verge. Her front wing at the door hinge end right back to the rear wing, so both doors and ring wing were stoved right in. Engine bar got the front, tin pannier got the rear.

2, Nearly parked, just putting my feet down and an old chap in his brand new (534 miles new) Yarrus pulled in to park ahead, only he misjudged and scraped right down the side of his car - again crash bars and pannier protected me. Virtually no damage to the bike - crash bar mounting weld sprung (on the opposite side to the impact) and dent in pannier.

I was going to replace them, but decided to weld them up instead! They are going back on as being easy to live with, once you get used to catching your shin on them putting the side stand up/down!

I like the look of Steptoe's but I couldn't get them to fit. When I have a job down London way I'll take the bike in for him to sort it.

bars

Don't touch adventure bars they are ok if it falls over or as in the above case slow encounters. If you come off at speed they dig in and flip the bike over doing much damage. I have done it ignoring Steptoes advice that this is what occurs, the straight bit that sicks out digs in the road and thats it.
Stick to other types with nice reound ends that slde.
Happy falling off, Dave GS.
