Hi,
does any body know where abouts on the crank of an 1150 gs 2/spark I can find the ref nr/colour for ordering new big end bearings?
I called a dealer but unfortunately there was only a sales person around.
I've got the colour code on the con rods ok, but cannot find any colour marks on the crank.
I will be replacing with standard size shells with the crank in situ.
Any info/help greatly recieved,

Steptoe????

many thanks,

On most engines I have rebuilt (none of them BMW incidentally, mostly Jap and one trumpet), the bearing colour markings are on the sides of the shell bearings themselves and not on the crank. You need to pop out the bearing shell lowers and look closely at the sides of them for a coloured area, if the lowers in the caps dont have colours, you may have to 'turn out' the top halves and look at them.

You could always mic up the journals and quote the sizes for replacement shells ?? A good idea to do this as a check for wear and ovality anyway IMHO.

Cheers Adam,
I have taken the shells out no colours present only a ref nr on the shells.
I called a BMW dealer but the guy was in no way mech minded. He did do his best however, according to him (read computer) they should be blue on the collar side and red on the thrust side, mine were niether. I will be measuring the crank journals for trueness and size,
I was hoping that someone on here may have done a rebuild of an 1150,
fingers crossed.,

Any takers???

cheers for any info, :beerjug:
