Big pile of dogshit

At the weekend if I get time I might remove the starter motor and put my 1000V megger across it when cold, then heat it up with my heat gun until its too hot to touch and megger it again to see if the insulation is breaking down when hot.

Nope. But I have sat on one, looked at the various specs. Lot of bike for the money, competent, but a bit dull imo. My mate ran the earlier version. Went well. He sold it and bought something more exciting ;)

So a bike is dull just by sitting on one ? Perhaps try riding one before writing it off and showing plain ignorance .

I was just looking at the relay and noticed a bit (and only a bit) of corrosion around the cable ends where the metal goes into the silicone surround.

I'm going to whip it off and give it a clean this weekend so would be interested in seeing your results

It looks dull, I didnt say it was dull to ride. Dont be such a dick. Even the more positive reviews comment on the dull styling. Its just a fact. Suck it up.

For the benefit of Bigcats and others, here's the info on testing the starter relay from the Advrider forum:

Nice work with the starter solenoid swap & testing. This strongly suggests your solenoid is not the issue, although there is the off chance that *both* solenoids are affected. One way to check this is to monitor the voltage drop across the solenoid during starting. DC voltage as measured from the input terminal (where cable from battery is connected) to output terminal (where cable to starter is connected) should be 12.8 prior to start (because contacts are open), and during starting should drop to between 0.1V and 0.25V (The value is dependent on the materials and design of the solenoid contacts). If if is higher than that, then something is wrong with the solenoid contactor.
If you can confirm that the contactor is not the issue, and all connections are clean/tight, then the starter motor is looking like a "person of interest" in the investigation.

So basically, put your voltmeter across the input and load terminals of the relay then try cranking the bike over, there should be a minimal volt drop value witnessed. (Obviously best done with the engine hot when all the issues reveal themselves.)

The only fact here is your narrow-minded view . Said like a true tosser.
Don’t forget to ask your mates advice when you next buy a bike . Much better than having a brain and forming your own opinion .🙈

I got home at 17:30 after getting a jump start from the BMW Assist van around 17:15 ish.

At 19:30 I received a follow on (presumably automated) text message from BMW Assist saying their man is 13 minutes away and I should update my location for them.

I hope they didn’t dispatch some other poor sod to help.
at least they didn't make you wait 5.5hrs like they did me in the fucking dark on a country lane in the arse end of the west midlands

Utter bollox.
Go ride something like a Tracer 9 GT+ and tell me it’s bland.
Certainly has more soul than a modern Boxer which sounds like a water-boarded Massey Ferguson.
No it’s bland …. A Tracer is like a Ladyboy , looks great and feels great until you ride it ☝️

My Crosstourer broke down 4.30pm on a Saturday in Aberystwyth Honda assistance finally picked me up at 11.30pm. Got home to Northampton 4am. They have to send out a van first before they’ll send recovery which caused the delay. Crazy thing is the guy in the van said “ we’re not allowed to work on bikes so you’ll have to be recovered” 😳

I can beat that. 7.5 in the Pyrenees in the middle of nowhere. I thought I was there for the night and there were bear foot prints on the logging track.
I was getting anxious as it got darker.

I’d rather have dealt with bears than some of the pissed up hen party monsters trying to get on my bike 😂

Well, as I have zero experience of ladyboys unlike your good self, I merely have my own experience of comparing my Tracer GT+ to other motorcycles that I have owned and ridden, and the Tracer GT+ is certainly not bland ;)
