BIKE STOLEN NORTHAMPTON

how much is your bike worth over £17.000 why dont people spend for £40 diy tracker / professional one at around £300 it pays for it self if your bike gets stolen
both my bmw have diy trackers its worth having just for the peace of mined

Just ordered a Tracker because of this and others.

So bloody annoying.

I think it was Northampton where MCN recently had their Mulistrada Enduro pinched from the cinema. Seems like a new target area.

Becoming a real hotspot for theft.... I got targeted earlier this year- they cut the locks off my gate but set off the pir alarm in the bedroom....I was outside in under 30 seconds but they'd done a runner. Neighbour up the street heard a noise and saw three guys in dark hoodies run to dark transit van and race off through the village. Passed the info on to the old bill, who said they wouldn't issue a crime number as nothing had been stolen:blast

So many bikes being nicked some people are trying to get the authorities to do something.... http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/n...police-inaction-on-motorbike-thefts-1-7654794

I'm not too far from Northampton. With the longer nights setting in you can expect more burglaries. Maybe I'm talking bollox because the neighbours where targeted in broad daylight. After we finish the living room the alarm system is going in. Got a PIR and door sensors for the garage. With the added GSM/GPS, chain and other stuff it would be secure but not unstealable. If they want it they will steal it.

As a temporary fix those locks adds a little bit piece of mind. At least they will have trouble lifting the door.

Stop mentioning chains please!

I cut through one, this week, in seconds . They are useless against disc cutters.

Not strictly true. Most are made from material that can be easily cut with a 4inch grinder, others are made from material that will withstand grinders and even hydraulic bolt cutters for a significant period of time (many minutes). Onus is on the buyer to purchase a good one...just like anything else in life.

Ultimately- if they want it they will probably find a way to lift it. All you can do is make yours as unappealing to the thieving t@ats as possible. That way they will probably target someone else.

someone attempted to steal my gs te whilst in London a couple of months ago. I felt sick to the pit of my stomach for quite a few days.
my bike is parked on the drive at home, so I have cemented a ground anchor in and purchased a Pragmasis 2.5metre chain with 19mm links and is made from boron steel. its guaranteed uncroppable and will take a grinder several minutes to cut through. I run it over the seat through the frame and centre stand and down to the ground anchor. That hopefully will stop them, but I still use my disc lock as well
trouble is TRYING not to worry and relax. but with this chain I do feel comfortable but at 18.7kg (44lbs) it takes it out of you moving it around.

When will it stop. The trouble is, nowadays, you don't know who any companies share information with. We had a new bedroom fitted last month, and since then I've had calls from carpet companies, curtain companies, and blind companies, all asking how our new bedroom is, and would we like a quote for their products.

My point is, who do the insurance companies/ bike accessory websites/ warranty companies share their information with? And once a bike has been stolen from your home, the thieves know that there's a high probability that there'll be a replacement bike there in a few weeks.

As to securing a bike in your garage with ground anchors/ chains/ alarms, do you really want to come down in the middle of the night and confront a thief, or two, and risk either going too far on them and ending up in prison, or them turning on you, all for a bike? I know I don't.

someone suggested lithuania, being broken and parts sold on ebay.

You know, I could have sworn it was Estonia. Or was it East Ham or Eastbourne? A mate told me; I really should have listened closer.

Yup, gangs of thieves leave Warwickshire every day. It's how they make a living, the train fares to London being what they are.

Bloody hell, that was my bike which I sold and delivered to you.

Really sorry to hear this, it's a great bike.

It wasn't me - I've bought a triple black one - honest!

Hope you get it back - awful news.

Dave

I think he doth protest too much! You are Dave, the Vilnius Villain.

You might be correct. The one I cut was an £85 Oxford "hardcore" one! It lasted about one to two seconds.
I was gobsmacked, I'd set aside an hour to get the job done!

I've got a Bumpstop ride in bike lock. I've also got a infared camera and pir hive system in my garage the pir is linked to my hive heating system so I can log in and see what's happening on my iPhone if I get an activation. No confronting thieves if you feel that way inclined. Best thing about this system is it works anywhere you are in the world. If you log in and see a theft in progress you just then call the police. (And then wait 8 hours for them to come :)
