Questions;
Was it in a garage?
Was it securely locked up?
Am I missing something here.
I guy leaves his bike outside overnight and unlocked then whines when it gets nicked.
Excuse me sir but what the f@ck did you expect.
These scumbags have no respect that’s why we have to go that extra yard in protecting our own.
It’s so easy to become complacent just coz we live in a nice area.
I no way condone what’s happened, the loss and/or damage of your personal goods is always hard to swallow.
I just don't understand all this sympathy. You know the risks, if you ignore them, then sorry, your a fool!

WTF does it matter, these Carnts, if they see something they want they take it. Even if it was in the garage, they still enter your house, take your keys and load your car up, put your bike on the trailer and steal the lot. This 'serves you right' attitude is exactly whats wrong with this country today. Your probably the sort that would walk past a mugging in the street, in case ya miss your train, and say 'poor old lady, serves her right for being old', Nadeem, glad you've still got your Moto.....

Thanks for the support guys, Blowzorn all I can say is I hope it never happens to you mate.

By the sounds of it Blowzorn locks his up so less chance of it happening to him. A lesson learnt the hard way, at least your insured Nadeem.

its the same with most security when new you use it all the time, then the its only popping indoors for an hour wont bother locking it which then builds up and up to the its raining i want to get indoors quickly, then a thread like this comes along and rereminds you why you spent all that money on locks and chains. Glad you still got the bike hope it gets sorted real soon and the insurance dosnt drag their heals.

I only just found this thread - who hasn't left their bike slightly less secured than necessary at some point? - Despite the cobras consumed this evening, I'm about to treck up to the garage and put the padlock on rather than leave it open overnight as I was about to!

What the feck, you feckin' unfeeling so and so. Unlike Nadeem, I feckin' hope it does happen to you, and don't forget to post it up so I can reply with some smart unsolicited comment. :spitfire

Bad news, chaps. Hope it all gets sorted.

Regardless of whether or not insurance covers the loss (and there's still excesses and loss of no claims to consider), thefts and damage like this are a personal affront and bloody frustrating.

However, I can definitively claim it wasn't me in either instance - Nadeem, I would have had your spotlights and your camera mount, at the very least; Machine Cat - I'd have had the carbon lid.

I have a little personal attack alarm, activated by pulling out a pin, and tie this to the garage door. If the door opens without disabling the alarm, the little ear-splitting scream would wake me up balert me before they start on the bike alarm. However, it's only a matter of time before I get fed up with deafening myself, and stamp on the bloody thing. Also, it does defeat the object of having a remote control on the garage door when you have to go and sort the alarm first...

If there's no-one in the house, neighbours will just ignore the alarm (like we all do to some extent, I guess). If we're in, do I really want to tackle soemone who may be willing to grab the nearest tool in the garage and hit me with it? Tough call, but I suspect if it happens adrenaline will kick in and I'll go rushing down to kick their heads in, and THEN get floored and beaten to a pulp.

Maybe I'll rely on the insurance after all...

Robin.

He said "I hope it *doesn't* happen to you" actually.

Obvisouly none of us would like to loose anything and I'm not going to comment on these circumstances but in general if we don't take care of our own kit then not only do we only have ourselves to blame - we also end up paying for each others lack of care in higher insurance premiums.

I've had an uninsured motocross bike and trailer stolen.

Should have insured it shouldn't I.

Paul.

Paul, I have had a bike properly secured in the past, and still someone stole it. Should I blame myself ?

Clearly not. It sounds to me like you took reasonable precautions and were unlucky. Thieves steal bikes period. Mine was secured to my trailer. They couldn't get through the locks so popped it into the trailer and made of with that as well. It was in a locked garage and as student trying to race on a budget, insurance was out of the question. Tough break but that's life and that is what insurance is for - the last line of defence as it were.

Perhaps it shouldn't be the only one though....

I wonder if people would have the same level of emotion if what was stolen was a piece of sh1t MZ or an uninsured CR250R?

I think I'll get my coat.

This is a bummer. Sorry to hear about it.

I had a CBR6 stolen from outside my house a few years ago when I lived in Edinburgh. Looks like I was followed as there was no way they would have known about it otherwise. Unfortunately, my attitide to security was too lax then as it only had a disk lock on it and was parked in the street. No alarm either.

The next bike I got had an alarm and immobiliser, several locks and was garaged at a friend's place.

Bike thieves are scum - which ever way you look at it. Bunch of amateurs in this case.

Yes, I was followed back from a practice track. I never rode it on the roads (not legal anyway) nor washed it on the drive and I always keep my garage door down even in the summer.

I nearly got it back. Someone told a guy they had seen a friend of theirs with a bike that had my number on the boards. He then went through a load of race programmes, found my name, called the club secretary and got my number. We went round to find it had already gone and we could prove nothing.

So close and yet so far.

To say it sucks is an understatement.
